For the record - they had them spent between four layers of wire and a temp barrier. It wouldn't have been hard to roll them all up - they intentionally and very publicly let them go.

Well, for one thing, I do not support violent mobs not matter what the cause. I do support peaceful protests as it is our right as Americans. I even support the Trump followers right to assemble and demonstrate their outrage even if it is sadly misplaced. So hold your scorn for those you know for certain are guilty.
The mob last night did break into government buildings, destroy property, disrupt a government function and enter into government facilities unlawfully. Also, police reported finding two pipe bombs and a stash of Molotov cocktails nearby. Thankfully those were not used in the incident. So your sugar coating is extremely thin.
Why is it so?

What I don't get, and I know I'm probably going to get skewered by saying this, is that for the most part, the type of people represented in that mob are largely hard working, reliable, law abiding, good natured Americans. There, I said it, now let the condemnation begin. I say this because I know all of those people. I live beside them, I work with them, I played trivia at a local pub last night with them. I was invited to a "Stop the steal" rally on a mass email yesterday, which I replied to by saying that I was celebrating Joe Biden's win and the response was a curt, "sorry to hear that". They can be great people, but in this case they have become so infatuated by one man that they have lost all perspective. I just don't know how to communicate political issues with them anymore. On every issue they are to the far extreme, as in zero gun regulation, absolutely no abortions, religion should get anything it wants, reduce taxes to near zero...etc. Just no compromise. But as I said, they work very hard, they are very reliable, they'll loan you their truck if you're in a bind, they'll help you fix your fence. I can't claim they are bad people. Something in their mind has just broken.
Why is it so?

I distinctly remember being called some pretty vile shit - and being accused of being a facist and Trump supporter because I DID condemn the rioters.
