There Are Growing Calls to Finally Tax the Catholic Church
A mayor in Canada wants to tax the Catholic Church as a result of its role in Canada’s assimilative residential school system—a role currently in the spotlight as more unmarked gravesites at former Catholic-run residential schools are confirmed across the country.
Iqaluit Mayor Kenny Bell’s plan seeks to remove a land tax exemption that churches enjoy.
The Roman Catholic Church hasn’t disclosed its net worth. But there’s no doubt it is one of the richest institutions on the planet, considering it’s one of the largest landowners in the world, and enjoys significant investments, and coffers full of gold and priceless original art. The Vatican, which is just a fraction of the Church, is worth $4 billion.
More than half of residential schools were run by Catholics. Sweeping abuses were common, and children were routinely punished for speaking their languages and expressing their cultures. Malnutrition and disease were also widespread, and thousands of children were killed.
In Canada, churches and religious groups enjoy similar tax exemptions to charities for providing a public good. But as Alberta Views Magazine reported, churches don’t need to hit the same standards the many charities and nonprofits do—churches, by nature, can discriminate based on religion.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Church first brainwashes people and then wonders why are people so removed from reality
Quote:Some parents of Boston College students are outraged the school mandates vaccinations against COVID, despite Pope Francis’s guidance
“This is not what BC taught me when I was there,” said an alumna. “Even my priest couldn’t believe it.”
Some parents of Boston College students are shocked, outraged, and deeply offended that BC is insisting that students returning to campus be vaccinated.
That’s not good enough for those who claim their children’s religious freedom is being violated by being forced to take vaccines that were tested using fetal tissue harvested from aborted fetuses decades ago.
This, remember, is the same crowd that demanded BC rescind an honorary degree for Enda Kenny, then taoiseach, or prime minister, of Ireland because Kenny, as the duly elected leader of a constitutional republic, had the audacity to follow a Supreme Court ruling ordering him to create an exception to Ireland’s then-strict prohibition of abortion when the life of a mother was in danger.
To its credit, BC stuck to its guns in that instance, even after Cardinal Sean regrettably gave cover to those ultra-conservative Catholics who obsess about abortion while the preening, judgmental bishops who preside over their church dismiss gay people as “disordered” and act as though it’s still the 18th century when it comes to women.
In the meantime, those Catholic anti-vaxxers might want to have their kids transfer to Providence College. The bishop in Providence is more up their alley, though it should be noted that most alleys are, in fact, dead ends.

No wonder real estates are so expensive in London - Church uses it for business instead of letting people who want to have a home live in them
Quote:Big Corruption Trial Opens at the Vatican
Proceedings have begun in what observers call the largest criminal trial in modern times involving Vatican officials. Ten people, including a once powerful cardinal, are facing charges of corruption and fraud.
The trial is the result of a two-year investigation into a failed investment of more than 400 million dollars into the London property market
Seventy-three year-old Cardinal Giovanni Angelo Becciu, a close aide to Pope Francis, was chief of staff of the Vatican’s Secretariat of State when he was forced to resign last September so that he could be indicted.
Charges against Becciu include embezzlement and abuse of office related to the purchase of a property in the prestigious South Kensington area of London.
The London real estate deal dates back to 2014 when the Secretariat of State invested initially around 240 million dollars, much of it from church donations, into a fund operated by Mincione. Half the sum was to secure 45% of the London luxury property and the remainder for other investments.
Soon it became apparent to the Vatican the investments would not only not be profitable, but that losses would be huge. Other individuals were brought in to salvage a situation that would only take a turn for the worse.

So it seems that Pope threw the Cardinal and other Vatican officials under the train because they lost his money.

Let's face it: this guy is way too evil to just die.
Quote:
Cardinal Raymond Burke, one of the Catholic Church's most outspoken conservatives and a vaccine skeptic, said he has COVID-19 and his staff said he is breathing through a ventilator.
On Saturday, his staff tweeted that he had been hospitalized and was on a ventilator, but that doctors were encouraged with his progress.
Burke has built a reputation as an outspoken conservative. He drew attention in the U.S. in 2004 when he said he would deny Holy Communion to Democratic presidential nominee, John Kerry, a Roman Catholic who supports abortion rights.
Burke also criticized the University of Notre Dame, in 2009, over its plans to give then-President Barack Obama an honorary degree because Obama supports abortion.
He also has criticized how governments have handled the pandemic, referring to the virus in a homily last December as the "Wuhan virus," a derogatory term coined by former President Donald Trump to describe the coronavirus and warning people that governments were manipulating them. In May 2020, he spoke out against mandatory vaccinations, saying some in society want to implant microchips in people.
He said in March 2020 that the best weapon for battling "the evil of the coronavirus" is a relationship with Jesus Christ.

People should really stop listening to some guys just because they wear funny hats.

It seems that the Church is losing Ireland
Quote:A leading member of the Irish clergy has said that evidence of Christian belief in Ireland “has for all intents and purposes vanished”.
“We have an ageing clergy and very few vocations to the diocesan priesthood or religious life. There is a major decline in the number of people who actively practise and live their faith.
“Today the visibility of faith has for all intents and purposes vanishes. I am also dealing with the legacy of sexual abuse scandals which have damaged the Church’s credibility. Since finance is a function of numbers, financial issues will arise which will be accelerated by the global pandemic and its aftermath.”
He said that he was not “pessimistic” about the future of the Church in Dublin and suggested “this time of reduced numbers may well afford us an opportunity to be creative and reimagine the institutional Church”.

Maybe they could switch to leprechauns, like tell stories about leprechauns and sell leprechaun merchandise because people still seem to like them.

I really do love the Catholic Church......however, there are a few things I take issue with, that I am unable to look passed.
1) "Jesus Is God" - This one is really bad, for me. I don't believe Jesus is God, I believe Jesus is a messenger of God.
2) "The Holy Trinity consists of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit" - This doesn't seem correct to me. I think the Trinity should be more like, God/Angels/Human Messengers. God is there, of course, and then there are angels, who serve as messengers, but only in spiritual form, not in human form, and then there are human messengers, such as Jesus.
3) "Mary was a virgin throughout her life" - This one just seems blatantly false. I do not believe in the Immaculate Conception, I believe Joseph impregnated Mary, and then she bore Jesus, and that Mary and Joseph definitely had sex a number of times, I mean, they were married, after all. Which also means that Mary was not sinless throughout her life, as I would consider sexual intercourse a sin, even if you're married to the other person.
4) "Believing you can be like Jesus, is a form of delusion" - This is something I was taught in Sunday School, that never felt quite right. We can't be like Jesus? We can't be messengers of God? Then why the emphasis on evangelization? Aren't we supposed to spread the word? This one never made sense to me.

How do you figure that? Why do religious people have sexual hangups?
