Just another gun thread. *sigh*

Edit: Didn't read the article (but I'm almost sure it doesn't mean the spirits of guns that have passed over). They want me to sign up first. Nuh uh. Frankly it would have been more interesting if we found out the Proud Boys were arrested for hunting ghosts

Headline reads - Proud boy jailed for seven years for unlawfully possessing ghost guns.
....
Please - WITHOUT reading the article - please tell me what you think this means.......
After we get some answers read the article. You may then see what bugs me.

Yes, unlawful firearms. The rest of it is kind of a puzzle, though.

It clearly means a member of a high suspect group was jailed for owning guns without ID numbers
The thing is i don't judge an article by the title. I have this weird habit of actually reading the article
This ^^^ is what I'm thinking it means as well.
Then again, I knew what a ghost gun was before this thread, so, not sure if that biases me. Because I'm not sure what is inflammatory or outrageous about the headline. Is it the use of the term "ghost gun"? Was the guy NOT jailed for seven years? Were they not a proud boy?
What is the bad assumption in the title that isn't in the article?
ETA: okay. Read it. I don't get it. What is the issue? Why is olb mad about this? Why the guessing games? What IS this thread about? *frustrated scoff*

OK....
Why the headline bugs me.
It is heavily biased and editorialized with intent to mislead.
Do you like accurate, to the point reporting? If so - the headline should read "Felon arrested for possession of firearms".
That, I have no problem with. It's good reporting - it's a good arrest. The guy is a felon - and he's not supposed to have firearms.
All is well....
But ---
First off - what does his being a member of the Proud Boys have to do with anything? It has ZERO to do with his arrest. It has ZERO to do with his having firearms.
But - everybody knows they are TERRORISTS... Right???? Well -- not in the US. In Canada, they are. But - we haven't made being stupid illegal. Or distasteful. Don't believe me? Go google and see if they are listed by the US government as terrorists.
Then -- why is "Ghost guns" mentioned? He will be charged for FIREARM possession. Not Ghost guns. Why?? Because -- regardless of what this kind of reporting has done to your brain - CONVINCING you that "Ghost guns are illegal" --- they most certainly are not illegal.
Don't believe me? Go google "Are ghost guns legal"? I'll wait while you look.
....
That's what bothers me. It's obvious as hell that the headline was made to inflame, and mislead.
It's what FOX does.

Reading the title, it looks like he’s been jailed for possessing guns without serial numbers.
Reading the article, the only potentially misleading thing I can think of is that the charges run deeper than that, with him buying parts from guns, creating “ghost guns” with no serial number, and then selling those guns. He also apparently involved legit gun stores in this horseshit, and seemed to have items that suggested he was impersonating FBI and DEA officers.
Why is Biker in a tizzy? Well, remembering another case where he blew a gasket over the fact that a guy who was telegraphing an intent to kill Joe Biden was reported as being arrested with guns (when he had other crimes, like possession of CP, on the docket), and that he’s virulently pro-gun, I suspect that the fact that they bring up his weapon possession at all is what set him off (despite the fact that he’s been arrested on and pled guilty to gun charges).

As for the relevance of mentioning that he's a proud boy. Yeah mentioning the fact that he's a member of a group well known for advocating violence is relevant

And with Biker having explained his rationale, here are my responses:
1) No, the Proud Boys aren’t legally considered terrorists in America. That doesn’t mean they’re not still dangerous. And somehow, I doubt that they’re any less dangerous in the USA than they were in Canada. Especially since they’ve been implicated in the storming of the Capitol (then again, I know Biker doesn’t really care about that; after all, a crime that fell through isn’t worth getting out of bed over in his world.) And they’re relevant because the judge still believes he’s a member. Also worth noting, you know who isn’t considered a terrorist organization in the US? The Ku Klux Klan. Indeed, it doesn’t look like the US lists ANY domestic groups as designated terrorist groups.
2) I checked the law. Even if he’s a felon, he’s still not allowed to possess ghost guns. And, in addition to possession, it looks like he sold them, and probably made them just to sell them, which is a federal crime, even if you’re not a felon.
