A person or animal can be either alive or dead, I am currently alive, in 200 years I will be dead, so logically 200 years ago I was also dead (I'm sure I wasn't alive!) being dead then didn't cause me any problems and I don't see why being dead again will cause any. (the actual process of dying is another matter, possibly nasty, painful and messy... best to avoid it for as long as possible)

No, you simply deferred the problem. The problem being primarily one of defining what it means for something to be alive or dead. It's not a black or white alternative which yields to your attempted clarification.
I once felt once the heart stopped, breathing stopped the patient was dead. Not so, because there can still be brain activity for some time, generally about five minutes.
However when you have a dead brain, the patient is clinically dead. Actually my opinion is once the neo cortex is dead nobody is home. If someone is skeptical of what many refer to as near death experience I would suggest doing to honest research into it.

This has obviously stopped being an introduction thread, pretty much stopped at page 1.

Establishing that we, as humans, have an immaterial component, a soul or spirit, that survives the death of our brains and bodies, is falling off a log scientifically. The test has been one of verdicality, the remote viewing of concealed objects; at least a half dozen scientific studies have looked for this phenomenon, and all have reported negative results.
That isn't exactly true. When you have a flat line EEG the brain is clinically dead. You can not recreate that without killing the patient.
I will agree that some experiences can be recreated, that does not negate the fact that most are genuine.
The real issue is can we continue to exist outside of our physical body in a spiritual form.
No one has been resuscitated who has entered a state of brain death; Pam Reynolds did not have a flat EEG, certainly after she was resuscitated.

Misapplication of the law of the excluded middle. Oddly enough, the first definition of dead that I pull up is, "not alive." I'm sure we could play that game a long time.
Apparently the medical definition is, “An individual who has sustained either (1) irreversible cessation of circulatory and respiratory functions, or (2) irreversible cessation of all functions of the entire brain, including the brain stem, is dead. A determination of death must be made in accordance with accepted medical standards.” Unfortunately, we can maintain a brain's function artificially, in principle, and that person would still be alive.
‘Irreversible’ would seem to be that salient part of that. If someone has suffered physical trauma to the point where they’re ‘clinically dead’ they’re not really going to be able to report back.

I'm always interested in talking to people that have had near death experiences, and especially if they were considered clinically dead.
Welcome RBP! I hope you enjoy our forum.
'Clinical death' isn't the same as 'biological death', which is irreversible. In clinical death (cessation of vital signs), resucsciation is still often possible depending on conditions, medical expertise, and available technology. Brain death is considered irreversible (the person will never regain consciousness would die if taken off life support) but diagnosis requires confirmation after at least six hours to ensure brain function isn't just temporarily suppressed to currently undedectible levels.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.
