The enormous gulf between something that works and something that works well. Sensory pathways that impinge on the conscious mind have a clear advantage over those that don't in that we can rapidly adapt our responses as necessary. We can think about our actions and learn from them. That isn't possible based on instinct alone.

Imagine for a moment that I threw a cactus to you. Do you decide to catch it or dodge it? Guess what the poor bugger with blindsight is picking out of his hands.
