Ever since Jimmy Carter started funding and training the Mujahideen, the US has had an off-again-on-again relationship with the extremist Muslim groups. Carter's purpose was to use them in Afghanistan to weaken Russia -- a long-term goal. At the time it was said that they wanted to make Afghanistan "Russia's Vietnam."

Just totally overlook the fact Russia invaded Afghanistan for the purpose of territorial expansion (like there doing in Ukraine).....

The US doesn't prioritize groups that value women's rights or free societies. The US supports groups that help to weaken America's rivals.

It does it a heck of a lot more than Russia does. How many Gay concentration camps are there in modern America?

Well, America invaded the country, spend a trillion dollars and ruined millions of lives in order to defeat the Taliban. 

And as soon as America left the country the Taliban took over. 

So how do you describe this, if not as a gigantic failure?

Not as big a failure as Russia invading Ukraine. Russia has lost more in 1 year than America did in over 20 years and at least America made some progress on human rights in Afganistan Russia has contributed nothing to Ukraine.

Yeah, i wondered as well why Mujahideen existed in the first place. Then i found out CCCP invaded Afghanistan.
I was SHOCKED!!!!

What i have NOT found out yet is: How the US was responsible for CCCPs invasion in the first place. Probably a plot to strenghten pruducers of the Stinger missiles.

Afghanistan was already a Soviet puppet regime, they invaded because the pro-Soviet government they installed after assassinating Hafizullah Amin, the General Secretary of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan (which he founded after the Saur Revolution of 1978, which he organized, that executed the then-president of Afghanistan, Mohammad Daoud Khan) was facing open rebellion in much of the country. The occupation was harsh (maybe 2 million Afghanis dead over the course of the war), but I think the people of Afghanistan might have been better off in the long run under communist rule than under the Taliban, and it was probably a mistake for the USA to support the mujahideen.

Hindsight is 20/20 though, at the time we were worried about Soviet expansion, and though it wasn't a suprise to the intelligence community, we couldnt know the Soviet Union would collapse just 12 years after the invasion.

City Hall reported that the first explosion in Mariupol occurred at 10:33 p.m. It said that after the explosions, there were problems with power and communications in the Central and Left Bank districts of the city.

Later, mayor’s advisor Petro Andriushchenko reported that a Russian ammunition warehouse in the vicinity of the city’s airport and a Russian military base in the Illich Iron and Steel works had been hit. There were reports of secondary explosions, while some of the other explosions may have been the operation of Russian air defenses.

Andriushchenko reported another explosion in the city on the morning of Feb. 22, with locals saying on social media that the blast “set off car alarms” and “shook the curtains.”
