Pretty sure it's Russia that'll be reliving the American experience in Iraq ... if they can ever manage to defeat the Ukranian forces, that is.

And it's America's fault that the Taliban are now in control of Afghanistan, too, right?

Quote:Now, a year later, sitting behind a wooden desk with the large white and black flag of the Islamic Emirate beside it, he still seems to be adjusting to his new life. But he says he recognises the importance of his role. "We were fighting against our enemies with our guns, thanks to God we defeated them, and now we are trying to serve our people with our pens." Ainudeen says he was happy while fighting, but also happy now.

In private, some other Taliban members who used to be on the frontlines admit they're rather bored by their new office-based roles.

But, he adds, compared to the hardships of guerrilla warfare, "governance is harder than fighting… war was easy, because there was less responsibility."

Well, America invaded the country, spend a trillion dollars and ruined millions of lives in order to defeat the Taliban.

And as soon as America left the country the Taliban took over.

So how do you describe this, if not as a gigantic failure?

Reminder - this thread is about Russia and Ukraine. That's why it has the name it does.

Feel free to start a Taliban thread.

Based on that, the actual comparison with Ukraine would be the Russians packing up and leaving, with Ukrainians then taking over THEIR OWN FUCKING COUNTRY.

RE: Russia and Ukraine
Ever since Jimmy Carter started funding and training the Mujahideen, the US has had an off-again-on-again relationship with the extremist Muslim groups. Carter's purpose was to use them in Afghanistan to weaken Russia -- a long-term goal. At the time it was said that they wanted to make Afghanistan "Russia's Vietnam."

In Syria the US supported ISIS, as long as they were fighting against Assad. Russia stepped in and defeated ISIS in Syria.

Currently there are photos showing soldiers in Ukraine wearing ISIS patches on their uniforms, fighting alongside the Nazis.

The US doesn't prioritize groups that value women's rights or free societies. The US supports groups that help to weaken America's rivals.

So how does one negotiate with Putin who claims that Ukraine invaded itself because the Anglican church decided God is genderless so he had to help demilitarize Kyivv from the gay Nazi weaponized bats that exist because lots of countries host US bases where they force everyone to be transsexual?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

You don't do any research at all do you? You just blindly swallow whatever nonsense you and your band of contrarians vomit fourth

Quote:Polygraph.info found and interviewed the Ukrainian commander from the AP photographs. Kurt explained that he has nothing to do with ISIS, but collects patches and wears them as trophies. The ISIS patch is a trophy he took from the body of a mercenary from Russia’s Wagner private military company, the commander said.

During a video-recorded interview, Kurt confirmed his identity and showed Polygraph.info his helmet and the patches on his uniform as they appeared in the AP photographs. He said that he is collecting military patches - as do many of his colleagues, who, like him, have been on the front lines since 2014, when Russia moved its troops, disguised as local partisans, into eastern Ukraine.
“The Ukrainian army has absolutely nothing to do with ISIS or any other terrorist group, we are defending our home from the real terrorist, Russia, for nine years now,” Kurt said.

So you think it was a good thing that Russia backed Assad? And they only did it to protect their own port in Syria.
