He’s not actually breaking any laws, just being stupid.

It's not that he's breaking the law, it's that he wants to go to court to argue why it doesn't apply to him, when of course it does.

I don't agree. I think there are moderate GOPers afraid of pissing off MAGAts and therefore staying silent. Not that this is praise, they're still enablers. But moderate Republicans missed the bus on countering the radicals taking over the party.
Moderate Republicans have ceded the field. They exist, but they're defeated.

Progress? Maybe.
Judge Allows 14th Amendment Lawsuit To Proceed
Quote:At least one lawsuit seeking to kick Donald Trump off of the 2024 ballot under the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause is speeding towards a late October trial after a state judge rejected the former president’s free speech arguments and refused to grant his “special motion to dismiss” on Thursday.

Jim (L'il Gymny) Jordan and all those who supported the Insurrection need to not be allowed to have their names on ballots per the 17th amendment.
He said he "couldn't remember" if he spoke to the President on 1/6.
Turns out it was THREE times.
Yet another liar.

Typo? The 17th Amendment governs the election of senators. 14th addresses insurrectionistas.

I'm also skeptical about the supposed moderates. There's little if any practical difference between a person who does a shitty thing because they want to, and a person who does the same shitty thing because the other guy wants them to. I stopped drawing a line between racists and people who will trade racist shit for tax breaks a ways back myself. I'll negotiate, though, we could call them only moderately shitty? That's all we can be talking about anymore with that party. People who have plenty of shitty ideas, just not the full cornucopia of shitty ideas. Maybe they're holding something back to run for higher office later.

I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. ... and the grift goes on ...
Quote:WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump’s political fundraising machine is raking in donations at a prodigious pace, but he’s spending tens of millions of dollars he’s bringing in to pay attorneys to deal with the escalating costs of the various criminal cases he is contending with as he moves further into the 2024 presidential campaign.
Campaign finance experts say using the money to pay for lawyers in cases not related to the campaign or officeholder duties appears to conflict with a federal ban on the personal use of donor dollars, even though the Federal Election Commission has ruled the prohibition doesn’t apply to so-called leadership political action committees. The massive amount of money going to lawyers also amplifies the urgency Trump is feeling to raise money both for the campaign and his legal defense, which is unfolding on multiple fronts.
Trump’s Save America political action committee has paid nearly $37 million to more than 60 law firms and individual attorneys since January 2022, Federal Election Commission records show. That amounts to more than half of the PAC’s total expenditures, according to an Associated Press analysis of campaign finance filings, and represents a staggering sum compared to other political organizations.

Whether or not a person is a moderate is determined by whether, when he has to decide, he sides with the insurrectionists or the democrats. If he sides with the insurrectionists he is but an extremist who when not called on to actually act, like to also have the benefit of not being seen as an extremist.
