2024 US Presidential Election

Remember when we thought Bush was bad?

George W. Bush came on the heels of a similar conservative lunatic-populist, Newt Gingrich, who sponsored the Defense of Marriage Act, which strictly defined marriage as the union of a man and a woman and denounced gays, feminists, and liberals as the enemies of "real America"--among other things. But he crashed and burned, especially since he spent much of his time on chastising Clinton for his extramarital transgressions while having an affair at the same time.

So George W. Bush practiced "compassionate conservatism" and even championed an immigration bill so moderate he couldn’t muster enough Republican support to pass it. But he also practiced typical Republican economic policy: tax cuts; which tanked the economy.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

The endorsement didn't come from the Bush administration, or any other administration. And 'bad' exists on a scale, you clunk.

Yep. Trump has really fucked up the Overton window.

It's partly Trump's fault.

But then it's also true that the Democrats have pretty much become what the Republicans were in Bush's time, so it's no surprise that Bush's people would be fine with Kamala.

No. If you bothered to read the article you would have found out that they disagree with many of Harris's policies, but still endorse her because Trump is a catastrophe for the country

Quote:“Of course, we have plenty of honest, ideological disagreements with Vice President Harris and Gov. Walz,” the Republicans wrote, noting the significance of a handful of battleground states that proved crucial to Democrat Joe Biden’s slim margin of victory in 2020. “That’s to be expected. The alternative, however, is simply untenable.”

Not really. Very few Republicans then or now would have shared her stance on abortion, affirmative action, the death penalty, or gun control, for instance.

Bush's people are giving their support for the same reason Romney, Kinzinger, and so on: they recognize that Trump is a threat to our democracy.

On the one hand I agree but on other it is somewhat like saying that there should be badge of honour for not dismembering kittens while smiling in genuine joy. In short I don't think that badges should be handed for having common decency.

Let's add another to the list.

Abba tell Trump to stop using their songs (msn.com)

“Together with the members of Abba, we have discovered that videos have been released where Abba’s music has been used at Trump events, and we have therefore requested that such use be immediately removed and taken down,” Universal Music said in a statement.

It added that no permission or licence had been granted to the Trump campaign.
