With a heavy heart I say,  Suzie Q peacefully passed away at the age of 14; I wrote something for her.

Yesterday

Yesterday we sat on the grass as the warm summer sun shined on us. Our faces kissed by a cool breeze, I know we don't have much longer left together

Yesterday we went for a walk.  It wasn't our usual route, your bones are weary and you walk much slower but you wagged your tail the entire time.

Yesterday I had you groomed. You look so pretty, Your muzzle has started to grey and your eyes are slowly getting cloudy.

Yesterday we went to your favorite park. You're not as fast as you used to be but we got to the beach part and there was no stopping you from swimming.

Yesterday you stayed by my side the whole day.  You could tell I was upset and was exactly the comfort I needed.

Yesterday you got caught in the rain when I let you out to play. You shook your fur all over the couch, I know I seemed angry but I could never stay mad at you.

Yesterday was the first time you brought back the ball when I threw it. We must have played for hours.

Yesterday was the first time you slept in your bed. Truth be told I was happy when woke up with you on my bed curled up.

Yesterday I gave you your first bath. I know you hated them but I couldn't help chuckling at how silly you looked soaking wet

Yesterday I got you for first Collar and Name tag.  You couldn't help but grab a stuffed animal toy at the pet shop, Obviously, I bought it.

Yesterday was the first time I ever met you. That crowded pet store, all those dogs but I knew you were the one I wanted to have until the end.

All I have now are yesterdays, Because today......I had to say goodbye

Goodbye sweet girl.

What a wonderful tribute! Sorry for your loss.

@Nay_Sayer I am so very sorry. I am all too familiar with the loss of a beloved pet. It doesn't matter if you know it's coming soon or if it's a surprise...it's a pain that leaves a hole in your heart, your life, and your home.

Good on ya for planning to adopt another dog. You have the love to give and that dog needs you.

I see the grey hairs coming in on my Blackie and dread what they portend.

Only that you should love them even more each day

Appreciate it.

The hardest part was the last 2-3 weeks: The sudden weight loss, developing a bad limp, poor bladder control and she had gone blind.  If she hadn't passed in her sleep I would have had her put down.

2 days ago I got back her ashes in a very beautiful wood-carved box. Kudos to the Vet, I assumed it was just going to be a decorative tin container.

I have the ashes of three dogs and now our African Grey in small wooden boxes.  I have them set up with photos of each pet.  The dogs' first collars are displayed too as is Karma's Deaf Dog collar she wore later in life.  The vet tried to get the ankle band off of Chewy but couldn't cut through it, so I saved her very favorite thing in all the world...her bell.

I see Ziggy's eyebrows getting frosted and hate what's to come.

They work their way into your life and your heart and take a piece of you when they leave.  But it's still worth it.

I commend you for continuing to rescue.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

If I had the means I'd probably have a house full

I made some new blankets for the pups out of scraps.  Harley seems to approve.
