The danger of pressing Iran too hard is that they feel compelled to build one or more nuclear devices as a last resort. Israel's assaults on them may have already pushed them to that point. One could make the argument that it's out of our hands now. Will we at some point feel compelled to finish the job by using bunker buster bombs to destroy Iran's deep nuclear facilities? Kill the wounded animal Israel has left us with?

Forcing regime changes in the Middle East has a terrible track record. I wonder though if we are going to be left with much of a choice here.

Possibly. It could be as well that Israel's strikes accomplish the intended mission and cripple the Iranian nuclear program to such an extent that Iran is left unable to rush build any weapon.

I don't know enough about it to formulate an educated opinion, but it seems to me that if the conflict has been going on for generations that nothing short of annihilation can end it.

It's armed forces should be bombed to shit, just like Yugoslavian forces back in the day. Whether israel is committing genocide or ethnic cleansing precedent for use of the force exists. World does not have balls for this though. As for Iran I see absolutely no reason for which USA should attack this country and compound certain rogue state error.
