Buffalo priest arrested on child pornography charges
Buffalo, N.Y. — A priest, Jeffrey Nowak, 46, with the Diocese of Buffalo was arrested Wednesday and charged with receiving and possessing child pornography, according to the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of New York. In March 2026 the FBI’s Child Exploitation Operational Unit received a referral from law enforcement in Scotland involving a Telegram group where members participated in Zoom calls during which child pornography was allegedly viewed and shared. Investigators linked one participant with the username “PigBoy666” to Nowak, prosecutors said. Authorities executed a search warrant Wednesday at Nowak’s home and seized multiple electronic devices, including a cellphone, laptop, iPad and USB storage device, as well as suspected narcotics, according to prosecutors. An initial review of the devices uncovered multiple folders containing videos of child pornography. Nowak is set to appear in federal court Thursday, prosecutors said. If convicted of the charges against him, he faces between 5 and 20 years in prison. https://13wham.com/news/local/buffalo-pr...ploitation Date fixed for Preliminary Enquiry in case of Derry priest charged with child sex offences Edward Gallagher (59) of Orchard Park in Lifford, County Donegal had been charged with one count of attempted sexual communication with a child on dates between April 2 and April 17, 2025. He also stands accused of seven further offences, including inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and causing a child to watch sexual activity on April 17 last year, as well as charges of possessing indecent images of children. https://www.derryjournal.com/news/courts...es-8787231 Philadelphia clergy members charged with sexual abuse and exploitation of minors Pastor Bryan Jackson, senior pastor of Garden of Prayer, and Pastor Isaiah Banks, who stepped down from Second Pilgrim Baptist Church, are both facing charges in connection to the sexual abuse of minors. Banks had served as senior pastor at Second Pilgrim Baptist Church since 2017. Bryan Jackson and Isaiah Banks face charges including criminal conspiracy, sexual abuse of children, sexual exploitation of children, corruption of minors, unlawful contact with a minor, and criminal use of a communication facility. Both men were arrested, arraigned, and are now out on bail. Philadelphia Police began investigating on April 8 after the Department of Human Services reported that Isaiah Banks allegedly solicited a minor to send sexually explicit videos in exchange for money or food. According to the District Attorney's Office, forensic evidence and interviews revealed that Banks and Jackson conspired to obtain explicit images from multiple victims. The investigation found that Banks sent images to Jackson, who posed as a female to solicit content directly from the victim. Text messages from January 2026 showed both men discussing plans to obtain more explicit photos. https://www.fox29.com/news/philadelphia-...e-case.amp
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Court filing alleges Vermont Catholic Church posed ‘ethical proposition’ to shield funds from abuse survivors
The Vermont Roman Catholic Diocese aimed to protect local parishes from priest misconduct lawsuits by placing their estimated $500 million of holdings into trusts, a recent job applicant alleges the state’s largest religious denomination’s past and current bishops asked if she’d help shelter more funds. Utah resident Celeste Heinonen was interviewing for the diocese’s post of chief financial officer in 2020 when she felt “shocked” and “sick to my stomach” receiving the inquiry, she said in a U.S. Bankruptcy Court declaration filed this month in the church’s Chapter 11 protection case. “Bishop Coyne then posed an ‘ethical proposition’ to me and asked if, as CFO, I would be willing to help the diocese prepare the necessary paperwork to ensure that if the diocese lost its lawsuits, there would not be assets left to satisfy the potential judgments,” she continued. Heinonen said she was “non-committal in my response” and moved on to meet John McDermott, the diocese’s former second-in-command and now bishop after Coyne’s 2023 appointment as archbishop of the Archdiocese of Hartford, Conn. “McDermott asked how I felt about Bishop Coyne’s proposal, and explained to me that it was important for the diocese to protect its current parishioners and not let the past ‘sins of its fathers’ harm the current parishioners or the diocese,” Heinonen said. The allegations come as attorneys for the church and clergy abuse claimants are set to fight in court over who should have access to the estimated half-billion dollars in local parish assets. The diocese filed for Chapter 11 protection in the fall of 2024, arguing that a past series of priest misconduct settlements had reduced its highest-level holdings by half, to about $35 million. But a committee representing more than 100 clergy abuse claimants has asked for authority to pursue the local parish assets placed in trusts 20 years ago. “The diocese is disguising its ownership of hundreds of millions of dollars of assets by claiming that its parishes and high schools are unincorporated associations,” lawyers for the federally appointed committee wrote in a new court filing. “As a matter of law, the assets of these self-settled trusts are available to satisfy the claims of survivors against the diocese.” The diocese — one of 44 U.S. Catholic entities to seek Chapter 11 protection — is trying to reorganize its depleting finances after paying $34.5 million to settle 67 clergy misconduct lawsuits in the past two decades, according to records, only to still face 119 more claims dating as far back as 1950. https://vtdigger.org/2026/07/13/court-fi...survivors/

Angry South Carolina parents question how registered sex offender allowed to volunteer at church-run school
Emotions boiled over Wednesday night in Pawleys Island, where a local pastor faced a crowd of angry parents to answer questions about how a 70-year-old registered sex offender was allowed to volunteer at the church’s school. Warren Perry was arrested on Tuesday in Georgetown County and accused of violating his parole by volunteering at the Pawleys Island Christian Academy, which opened in 2001. The school, operated by the Pawleys Island Community Church, offers programs for children from 6 weeks old through kindergarten. Eliza Perez, a former teacher at Pawleys Island Christian Academy, discovered Perry’s status by accident while scrolling Facebook and finding a link to the registered sex offender’s website. “I just get on there and type in my zip code, and there he is. It is Warren,” she said. “I go into full, like, honestly probably shock. My stomach dropped, and I immediately screenshot it, send it to two of my coworkers, and I’m like, this can’t be real, right? I got on the phone, and I immediately called my boss, which is my pastor’s wife. And her response to me was, ‘I know. We know.'” Church leaders said they were aware of Perry’s conviction but believed he was following the conditions of his probation while under what they called “strict supervision.” Parents vocally questioned church leadership, with one unidentified parent at the meeting even alleging that Perry had molested their child. “I reported to Nicky that my child was molested,” the woman said. “Nicky told me that nothing like this would ever happen.” The room erupted as Williams explained why teachers or parents were not informed of Perry’s criminal history. Amid the outburst, parents exclaimed, “If there’s a family, you tell your family! Our kids are not a lottery ticket.” Another parent was heard saying, “This place needs to be burned down … it needs to be burned.” https://myfox8.com/news/south-carolina/a...chool/amp/

'It's heartbreaking': Pastor accused of exposing himself, sending explicit photos to teen
A Northern Virginia pastor who traveled widely to preach is now accused of sending explicit images to a teenager he met at church in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania State Police said Kenneth Baldwin, an Alexandria resident and pastor at Crossroads Baptist Church in Bailey's Crossroads, gave a sermon at a church in Pennsylvania in November 2024 and exchanged phone numbers with a boy who was 15 at the time. Baldwin later began sending sexually explicit images of himself multiple times a week for about a year, then sent several more pictures in recent weeks. Pennsylvania State Police questioned Baldwin and said he admitted exposing himself to the victim on three separate occasions in three separate states. Authorities also said Baldwin admitted sending nude images of himself to the boy. “In a world where there's so much dishonesty, the church is supposed to be the place where the most honest is at. And, something like this is just, it's repulsive is what it is," said Evangelist D.R. Harrison, who met Baldwin years ago through ministry work.

Florida pastor accused of having sex with 14-year-old boy while hiding HIV diagnosis
A “dope-smoking pedophile preacher” had sex with at least one underage boy and an adult man without telling them he was HIV-positive — and Florida officials said Tuesday they fear there might be additional victims. Timothy Chaneyfield, 42, of St. James United American Free Will Baptist Church in Winter Haven, was arrested after he got off a plane at Orlando International Airport on July 29, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. The sheriff’s office alleged that Chaneyfield and a 14-year-old boy met on a dating app before Chaneyfield took their chats to Instagram, which led to three meetings for sex. A 26-year-old man who also had sex with Chaneyfield was located by investigators and tested positive for HIV, Judd said. “The 26-year-old didn’t know [Chaneyfield was HIV-positive] until we brought it to his attention, and the 14-year-old had no clue that he was having unprotected sex with an adult that was HIV-positive,” Judd said. “This guy’s nasty. He’s a menace to society, and he’s proven that.” https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/flo...rcna590998 US asks Philippines to extradite Filipino church leader accused of sex crimes and fraud The United States has asked the Philippine government to extradite a Filipino church leader, who was once an influential adviser to former President Rodrigo Duterte, to face trial on charges including child sex trafficking and fraud that landed him on the FBI’s most wanted list, two Philippine officials said Thursday. Quiboloy, 76, leads the Kingdom of Jesus Christ church, which was founded in 1985 in southern Davao city and claims to have a wide following in the Philippines and abroad, including in the U.S. In his heyday, Quiboloy was one of the most influential religious leaders in the Philippines and regarded as a political kingmaker. He served as spiritual adviser to the equally controversial Duterte, who took office in June 2016. Quiboloy claims to be “the appointed son of God” and has made outrageous claims that sparked questions about his character but endeared him to his followers. He once claimed to have stopped a major earthquake from hitting the southern Philippines. In 2024, Quiboloy went into hiding after a Philippine court ordered his arrest along with several others for alleged child and sexual abuse and human trafficking, police said. The Philippine Senate separately ordered Quiboloy’s arrest at the time for refusing to appear in public hearings about his alleged crimes. The preacher denied the allegations, saying they were fabricated by critics and former members who were removed from his religious group. Quiboloy and four others facing accusations surrendered in September 2024 after about 2,000 police raided a 30-hectare (75-acre) compound of his religious group, which included a cathedral, stadium, hangar and taxiway leading to Davao’s international airport. He has been jailed since then. U.S. federal prosecutors in 2021 separately announced an indictment of Quiboloy for allegedly having sex with women and underage girls who faced threats of abuse and “eternal damnation” unless they catered to the self-proclaimed “son of God.” https://apnews.com/article/apollo-carreo...f4a6ed9544

Catholic Church deacon in Maryland arrested and charged with sex crimes
A deacon for the Catholic Church in Maryland's Harford County has been arrested and charged with two counts of sexual solicitation of a minor, the sheriff's department announced on Thursday. Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler identified the suspect as 45-year-old Kenneth Goedeke, of Bel Air, Maryland. Gahler said in a statement that Goedeke was taken into custody by deputies after communicating with an undercover detective whom he believed to be a 15-year-old boy. The suspect then allegedly arrived at a location to engage in sexual activity with the child.

‘Began by giving her hugs’: Edinburg pastor accused of inappropriately touching girl at church
Jorge Gonzalez Martinez, 49, of Iglesia Internacional Poder y Gloria was arrested July 27 without incident following a police report filed earlier in July, as ValleyCentral previously reported. The girl reported that the abuse began when Martinez started giving her hugs, which turned into tighter hugs with body contact. The tighter hugs progressed to him kissing her on the forehead, cheeks, and lips, according to the affidavit. All of the incidents occurred when the girl was in the church’s camera room. According to the girl’s report, Martinez touched her breasts after pulling up her shirt and bra. The girl also reported that Martinez was sitting on a chair when he called her over and pulled her leggings down. Martinez then allegedly sat her on top of him to face him and placed his hand over her private area and touched her inappropriately. On another occasion, Martinez asked the girl to lie down on the floor and close her eyes. Martinez proceeded to pull down her leggings and exposed her private area. The child said when she opened her eyes, she saw Martinez staring at her private area. In another incident, Martinez asked the girl if she wanted to touch him, but she did not respond. Martinez then allgedly grabbed her hand and put it on his private area over his clothes. Martinez was charged with three counts of indecency with a child sexual contact and indecency with a child exposure and was booked into Hidalgo County jail on July 28. Hidalgo County jail records show Martinez was released from jail on Aug. 6. In an interview with ValleyCentral on July 29, Edinburg police Chief Jaime Ayala said the police department released information about Martinez’s arrest because they believe there may be other victims. https://www.valleycentral.com/news/local...at-church/
