I'm only concerned about how the law will be used against institutions who do not want to perform same sex marriages, what other churches do is of little concern as I don't think they have long to last in reality, a church that simply mirrors secular beliefs is pretty much useless, unless it gives moral guidance rather than change its morals according to what poeple generally think, it's of no use. The Church is not a democracy it is an order. Truth is not dictated by majority opinion.

No you are not...you are terrified that this will take away you petty childish privilege...nothing more
The MAJORITY IS the opinion..this is what the religious are afraid of...they are becoming increasingly aware that the majority do not share their opinion

Just because they pay the same taxes and are subject to the same laws and responsibilities as everyone else does not mean they should have the same rights as everyone else.
Am I right????
A secular dictatorship that will make laws to restrict religious freedoms to be a bunch of self righteous, sanctimoneous arseholes.
Yeah, I'm cool with that.
Marriage is not a "right" its a religious sacrament, your argument is the same as saying "all people should have the same right to receive the eucharist, no matter what they believe or do". Same sex couples have all the same rights in law as married couples, they have civil partnerships.
For starters marriage is not a religious sacrament, it is a contract of commitment between two people.(Ever heard of civil marriages?)
But of course religion just couldn't pass up the opportunity to control yet another aspect of peoples lives could they?
And why shouldn't two people regardless of sexual orientation be married in any way they wish?
Apart from the reasons of your obvious homophobic bigotry and the churches outdated angry desert deity credo?

The fact remains that religion is a decayed relic form a bygone age that does not have the wit to know that it is dead. ![Dodgy Dodgy](https://atheistforums.org/images/smilies/dodgy.gif) meh

You're a sheeple of the catholic church as I recall.

It's not a symbol of a dying church - it's a symbol of a more tolerant church. If yours doesn't want to perform those unions, it doesn't have to. You can avoid the "rabble" all you wish.

Evidently is is, since you want to stop other churches from being able to perform marriages.
You have this idea that somehow your church is more valid and has greater moral weight, which despite your personal convictions, is not true, nor should your personal convictions be used against other institutions.
You not only do you want your church to have a say in law, but to have a say on the religious laws of OTHER CHURCHES. That is arrogance to a stupendous level.

If you’re going to watch tele, you should watch Scooby Doo. That show was so cool because every time there’s a church with a ghoul, or a ghost in a school. They looked beneath the mask and what was inside?

Moot point for me - if I ever con some poor putz into marrying me, it'll be outside. Probably all pagan and barefoot, just to make the rest of both families feel uncomfortable.

Firstly marriage is a religious sacrament but can also be a civil marriage, which is essentially the same as a civil partnership, I'm perfectly happy with all of that.
Secondly what if the two people in question decide that they want to be married in a Catholic Church? Do you think it is a gay couples right to be married in a Catholic Church if they so wish?
Ad hominem attacks are so uncalled for and indicative of the losing side of an argument...
