Perhaps, but each state must work with what is available to them and each knew what to expect. In particular, Illinois has consistently voted for over-generous pension plans while avoiding making any plans to pay for them.

Illinoise could lobby harder for federal funds they financed with their own tax dollars in the first place, so as to reclaim from the "responsible states" of the handout they've been responsibly needing for decades.

surely massachusetts is the only 'responsible' state, as it's state budget must not run at a loss. (something Romney misleadingly tells voters, 'i balanced the books'. Yeah cos you had to magic pants twat)

When I was in Turkey a few years ago several of the people we met expressed deep reservations about joining the EU. They seemed to think it was not best for Turkey.

I also had one charming old lady ask me ( ME of all people!) "what is wrong with Mr. Bush? Why does he support the Kurds?"

I told her what was wrong with Bush. I even cleaned it up a little.

Indeed, it's not the best for Turkey! But you can't just tell this to the politicians and a small minority amongst the non-nationalist secularists in Turkey who just worship Europe, but claim to love Atatürk.

Well, that charming old lady knew probably very little than what his grandchildren told him. Bush never directly supported the kurds, whatsoever. I'm sure he wasn't even properly informed of what the point in supporting them was.
He was probably told that they were just supporting the ones in northern Iraq. But little did he know perhaps that by doing that, he was doing us great damage. Or maybe the ones who are behind him did so. I personally did like Bush. His face looked so innocent and sadly ignorant sometimes. I don't think he was a bad man. But I don't think that no one is "bad", just looking after their own interests. It's time we start doing the same, and this does not require us to join the EU.

You must have been talking to that lady for days on end.

Meh, fuck the EU is all I can say, Greece or no Greece.

Its screwed around with Britain's economy, politics and law-making powers for too long.

We've had a toxic relationship at best with them. We can't even extradite any of these radical rabid Muslim cleric terrorist fuckers in this country because they argue it would "breach their human rights" if we deported them back to where they illegally came from.
