Actually, there's a lot more nuance than in the American black community than you are giving credit here. There is a huge divide between blacks (I'm using this term because using African-Americans would be confusing) and naturalized Africans. Africans aren't necessarily accepted into the fold simply because of their shared skin color. I would argue that Obama became accepted by the black community because he married a black woman, not a naturalized African or white one.
