The law of Moses serves one purpose. To show that we (in some form or fashion) fall short of the standard of God.
Once the law establishes that, and we understand that Righteousness can not be obtained through our deeds, we must seek another way to obtain the righteousness needed for eternal life. Enter Christ and His sacerfice. Once one takes on the sacerfice of Christ upon himself, he is made whole, complete or righteous before The God in this scripture.
Quote:3) If god "made" the ugly, and handicapped, A.K.A. "Blemished," why would he shun them from his alter?
The word Holy means to set apart or apart from the common or everyday use. God has set a precedence that only the perfection is allowed before Him.
Quote:Why did god draw the line at grotesque and handicapped?
God is illustrating here that only the ones without blemish may approach Him, and the physical blemishes physically show or illustrate a principle that was not known to these people to that point. That our Souls can be 'belmished' just like the handicaped's bodies can be belmished, and like wise not acceptable to God. God started with something they could see and relate to, and eventually evolved this concept to include a prinicple that they would not have understood without this illustration.

Because their were no 'ford models' to be had. No soap.

Only if you are on a Christ Witch Hunt. Otherwise "The Jewish part of this" Set up context. God spoke this command to Moses/Arron who was the Cheif or first high Preist.
Quote:The descendants part is less so, but it opens two questions. How many people are his descendants today (assuming he existed) and, why?
The Decendants of Arron were the Levities or the Preists for the Jews. This law was meant for the Preistly Jews only. As regular Jews could not approach God anyway, Being a blemished levite put one in the same catagory as everyone else.
Quote:Why would he make this law, regardless of who it is applied to?
Again so the people could eventually establish 'unclean or blemished' souls, and seek attonement for themselves.

The non-self righteous would ask why would God do this, rather than assume he already knew.
Quote:God is discriminating against his own creation because he messed up in making them?
No. He his teaching us to discriminate between the every day and what is set asiide for God.
Quote:So...god discriminated against external ugliness because he couldn't (read:didn't) explain what internal ugliness was? (As if they couldn't understand that, right...)
The fact that you have identified sin as 'internal uglyiness" means you do not understand it even in light of everything He has done to describe it. Putting this in perspective with all you take for granted, and still do not understand it, How were the Jews to understand this concept when Nothing like it had every been identified before?

All have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God. (Because their were no Ford Models to be had) No,Soap (Christ had not died for their sin, meaning they could not have their sins washed away)

I actually agreed with what you wrote up until this. It is one thing if god is picky and only wants unblemished people to serve as priests, but why would this law serve the end you suggested? Are people made to repent for being ugly, or are people being taught to associate evil with ugly people?

The non-self righteous would ask why would God do this, rather than assume he already knew. I guess that means you are self-righteous, Drich! Assuming that someone knows what they are doing when there is not a clear reason, nor any reason for them to hide their motives leads one to believe they don't have a good reason. Please remind me of when go established that he was trustworthy. Was it when he punished Adam and Eve for a 'crime' that he made it impossible for them not to commit, or when he drowned almost every living thing on earth?

Oh, of course. I keep forgetting that sin is the arbitrary command of the great megalomaniac, and that it is not reqiured to have any bearing on actual morality.
Drich Wrote:All have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God. (Because their were no Ford Models to be had) Hmmm, mabe because we aren't god we have fallen short of his 'glory'? Or maybe because he made us defective...

God estsablished That only the "Set Apart" was worthy to be used in the service of God. The need to be Set apart is the reason 'we' need a full understanding of the many ways we can be considered 'blemished.'

Indeed, or I have asked that question myself, and got the answer..
Quote:Drich! Assuming that someone knows what they are doing when there is not a clear reason, nor any reason for them to hide their motives leads one to believe they don't have a good reason.
I will try and simplify as this can get deep. Don't take offence if I make this too simple.
If one looks down the Path God sets before them, then 'Clear reasons' abound. If one looks down the path he set for himself to live apart from God then the 'clear reasons' God offers is taken away, allowing one to build on his own version of righteousness.

This is were it get deeper. If yu want to go into detail start another thread.

Finally one of you is getting it!

Actually read Genesis again we were created perfectly, we chose to be 'defective.'

I wouldn't call it dodging Drich. You're simply incapable of answering the question because you do not know.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
