Is it discrimination to ask for one's religion?

All religious organisations here are using it to not allow "the wrong type of people to corrupt the corporate culture of the organisation" Dunno

People are people and they will discriminate no matter how you want to legislate it I think.

Just because it's bad it doesn't mean we should allow it. Our children will be next blah de blah Smile

If it's integral to a religious organisation's business then it's ok to be selective. If it isn't, then that's wrong. 2 wrongs don't make a right young lady! Tongue *wags finger*

The hiring process not just about qualification, it's also about inter-personal relationships, you wouldn't hire someone who absolutely poisons the working atmosphere just because (s)he's qualified.

I have zero tolerance to bullshit, so yes, I would choose the lesser qualified atheist/agnostic over the more qualified devout Christian any day of the week.

In a small company getting on together gets more important. Whilst it would be the most ethical thing to do, tolerating someone who annoys you for whatever reason would be counter productive literally. In some places the law is against you, and the principle, as above, is correct.

Small towns/ small communities work like this. Progress seems to think it's a bad thing. I dunno. It's one of those things I keep jumping the fence on. Hoppity hop! Big Grin

RE: Is it discrimination to ask for one's religion?
Do you people have a life besides posting thousands of replies on these forums and news groups? Do you hear yourselves? Some of you are so quick to judge and then are offended that I fired the guy for almost costing me a big account and was an extremist. Not for praying on my dime, which is another issue, but he was always preaching about how Jews should all die and Islam was the ultimate religion and all these crap you hear and see everyday. He thought because we were atheists and agnostics, we would put up with him.
The day I walked on him praying, was the straw that broke the camels back.
Also, I am not a bigot. I hire people whom I think will be the best fit. I have in my employment; a Chinese girl, 2 blacks, one guy that walks with a cane out of 11 people whom I provide for.
I don’t want to pay people to sit around and shoot the shit about crap that none can do anything about. I pay them to work and contribute to their wages.
If that’s bigotry, then separating church and state is a bigot and discriminatory act too.

As I said, I think most of you here have no life and are waiting in shadows waiting for some one to post something that is against your beliefs and then shit all over him with out even asking for more details first.
What makes you different from other religious nut jobs?
And if you are posting on your employer’s time, are you not a thief as well?
I thought it would be curious to join an atheist group and see if they had something to contribute to things that I DIDN’T already know and get some new and fresh perspective. Too bad, I really liked some of you and the comments you posted on different subjects.
Gotta go. Some of us have a business to run and can’t be posting shit all day.
Might maybe right, but right is always might.

Yet all you have done is create this obviously flame worthy thread, lashing out like an immature brat when you are called out on your discrimination.

This is the Internet... All we have to go on is what you say and how you present yourself. You aren't an established member, and I believe this is your first thread... And what a first thread! It's like walking into a bar you've never been to before and loudly stating some derogatory/discriminatory statement about a group of people. Your comments probably wouldn't be taken well in that context either. All of this backlash is because we have no context of you other than what you've given us to go on. So give us something else to counterbalance it instead of becoming defensive. Just an idea.

No he hasn't Maelstrom. The bigotry and flame war has come from the posters to this thread.

God=BS is in business and that means paying someone to perform a task at a mandated rate of pay. He wants value for his dollar just as the employee wants value for his dollar. I see no discrepancy here on the bigotry of those who think that they have a right to utilise company time for their own lifestyle choices.

I went for a job once and was asked IF I was on Facebook. I answered yes I was and I didn't get the job.... Thinking gee I wonder why?

Did you hear about that guy who was "employed" in a software company, he "outsourced" his work to some guy in Hong Kong (and paying the Hong Kong "employee" a pittance) was caught out playing online games and Face-booking all-day on company time? Do you really think that an employer will tolerate this sort of crap?

You complain about the GOP and the "Corporation" of America and wonder why it is all going to shit?

We ALL discriminate Maelstrom. I do prefer the word discernment.

You will discriminate where you would like to live, who you want to associate with and what foods you would like to eat, all because you are different to me and I to you. We may be able to find common ground and be able to work together well but I make no mistake in thinking that it is all fluffy bunnies and vegan utopia and Bambi is a documentary.

Nature (the REAL World) is hard and the sooner we all remember this perhaps the better we all will be Dunno

I think it's very suspicious that you start out saying you fired the guy for praying and then after receiving backlash you've tried to make yourself sound better by saying he was advocating killing Jews and such.

Well, you're a regular fucking Martin Luther King. You do realize that bigotry goes beyond racial issues, don't you?

Then don't. What that has to do with discrimination based on people's religious beliefs is beyond me.

Epic fail. The separation of church and state says that religious beliefs cannot be officially implemented into government policy. Nowhere does that imply that people that hold religious beliefs cannot work for the government, nor does it say that religious beliefs can be taken into consideration when deciding if someone gets a government position.

Or perhaps the sooner we realize that religious beliefs don't necessarily have to be the dividing factor we have allowed it to be, the better we will all be.

But it just wasn't religion FNM it was using company time for something that should be personal and practised on one's own time. I think it is more about work ethics than anything else and yes =BS didn't do himself a favour by only imparting part of the story.
