"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

A point of correction would be that the way machine parts are joined-even inertia-is part of the machine. Finally, there are definite reasons why lakes are blue and salt isn't poisonous. Why should I believe that the universe had no beginning? Is there a reason that caused elements should make an uncaused whole?
I wanted to stay away from this but .... you've wandered into my territory. Salt is poisonous.

Is there a reason that caused elements should make an uncaused whole? You've been given the reason many times already. Causation is a temporal phenomena and time is an aspect of the universe. For there to be a cause of the universe, time would have to exist independently - which to our knowledge - it doesn't, so there isn't. God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.
