Why would he care about the societal norms of ancient cultures? What stopped him from saying something like "if a man approaches a woman with the intent of raping her, I will cause him to die instantly"? Why would he instead create a rule that respects such a backwards culture? He demanded that they put to death a man who worked on the Sabbath, but nooo... we wouldn't want to offend anyone by outlawing slavery!

Yeah, I mentioned this in another thread, but when Drich is talking about his god that had to work within the framework of the time, and couldn't just make a rule about it that must be followed bindingly... he's talking about the same god who turned Lot's wife into a pillar of salt because she looked behind her when leaving Sodom. This isn't exactly an accommodating deity.

A supreme being that is supposed to be the origin of all morality should have know, that slavery is ALWAYS wrong, that stoning to death unruly children (even if they are teenage drunkards) is ALWAYS wrong, that sending a bear to tear apart a bunch of children for taunting a bald prophet is ALWAYS wrong.

As a side note, I can only imagine that this legal policy brought the reported rape crime rate to zero.

Kind of like how some Muslim countries today bring down the reported rape crime rate down by prosecuting the survivor for "adultery crime". Arguably worse.
