Oprah speaks for atheists?

RE: Oprah tells atheist swimmer Diana Nyad that atheists don't believe in 'awe' and 'wond

anyone care to respond?

Gods are IMAGINARY - so if that is what Oprah gets "Awed" by - then we should wonder about her

The only reason why she wasn't allowed to buy that $38,000 purse which was because clerk was white and she black! Oh my outrage over this poor woman!

The thunder announces itself to the humans below reminding them how little control over its domain we really have. For once, while facing the wrath of a storm, we face something that is truly a god, something that can decide if you live or if you die. (It might sound cheese, but as a agnostic I can marvel and know good and well the beauty as demostrated above.)

You seem to be a strange person, I'm marking you down as such in my notes.

So rich people are not entitled to the same human emotions as the poor?

If Zuckerburg went to buy those houses around him wearing an atheist shirt or hat, would that give the right of the real estate agent to say "fuck you atheist"

I don't think Oprah lives in the same economic bubble as tea party. Certainly Nick Hanour does not. And the owners of Moo Cluck Moo do not.

You can find plenty of things to attack Oprah about, but this is not one of them.

My wife is an atheist but a fan of Dr. Phil. Can anyone fill me in on why he's a fraud?

Here's one juicy tidbit that has fraud all over it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_McGraw Wrote:In 2003, McGraw entered the weight-loss business, selling shakes, energy bars, and supplements. These products were promoted on his show with his sisters Deana and Brenda and nephew Tony among the featured testimonials on the show.[24] These products' labels, which carried the brand name "Shape It Up, Woo, Woo!", stated: "These products contain scientifically researched levels of ingredients that can help you change your behavior to take control of your weight." This met with swift criticism from various sources,[3] accusing McGraw (a clinical psychologist, and not a physician) of lacking the expertise to recommend weight-loss products. Facing a Federal Trade Commission investigation into Shape Up's claims, McGraw pulled his supplements off the market in March 2004, and the FTC dropped its probe. In October 2005, several people who used McGraw's products declared an intent to file a class-action lawsuit against him, claiming that although the supplements cost $120 per month they did not stimulate weight loss.[25][dead link] McGraw settled the suit in September 2006 for $10.5 million.[26] Some of the settlement ($6 million) may be paid to the plaintiffs in the form of Amway (Quixtar) brand Nutrilite vitamins.[27][dead link]

This opening paragraph of the article in question I think completely undersells the accomplishment of Diana Nyad. She didn't just swim from Cuba to Florida. She did so, unaided, at the age of 64. Now that is truly remarkable.

I'm sure that at some level Oprah thinks she couldn't have made it without a little help from her sky-daddy. I guess the first four times he tried to drown her and then decided oh, what-the-fuck!

Rather than thinking god helped her, think she took the best god can dish out and emerged unbowed and ultimately triumphant.

Yeah but its a lot lamer than Dr. Pepper.

Also I'm pretty sure Dr. Pepper is more of a real doctor.

I'm not sure if popular vote counts, but I did just see his latest hard cover release at the dollar store.
