No matter what islam says, the hijab and burka are a symbol of oppression of women and it should not be allowed. Sure, some women will say the burka empowers them or is good or whatever, but think about this: The north Koreans think their leader is a god. Are they right? Whether or not you believe the burqua is inherently oppressive or a symbol of oppression, that still doesn't justify the treatmen those girls got. I've had classes with them and sat down and talked with them and they're nice people who don't deserve most the shit slung at them. That's what I call islamophobia.

I say ban the burka & the public display of religious symbols on one's person in general (other than the Jewish star, because that is frequently worn by secular Jews as well).
