Maybe People Should Not Look Up To YouTube Atheist

RE: Maybe People Should Not Look Up To YouTube Atheist
I do not think rapists existing is the same as wild lions. We are human beings. I think we have the ability to judge situations, such as 'should i rape someone?'. I think we are influenced, just like other animals, by our environment. Rapists are not 'wild', they are members of society.

Also, you don't know someone is a rapist beforehand. It's not like seeing a lion. I also think that is lazy, 'let's do nothing about rape'.

Actually, yes, sometimes you CAN know they're a rapist before hand. If someone has a reputation for sexually violating others or talking about them in a sexually disrespectful way, you might pay attention to that reputation.

Tara - Yeah, 'if' they do such things. Even then, sometimes it's difficult though. My aunt has a boyfriend who gropes women. I cannot do anything about him being there at family gatherings. I have a female body. You see where this is going. I will avoid being alone with him whenever possible, but sometimes people have a habit of leaving the room, or I'll step outside for a cigarette and he'll follow. Haven't been raped, but I do not trust him and definitely think he could be a rapist. Easily.

Yes, but the video also mentioned that the urge to rape can be a very primeval instinct, if the person cannot control this, they become as good as a wild animal

Firstly, no one said 'let's do nothing about rape'
Secondly, what do you think we should do about it? If you have any suggestions as to how to stop it, i'm all ears
Because clearly just telling people not to rape, doesn't work. We tell people not to lie, steal or murder, but those things still happen.

Wolf - You have to buy that it is a primeval instinct first. And also why we should value it over what else evolved with us - the human brain.

Education. Teach youngsters to respect one another, to view those they consider 'weaker' to be alive, human. Without the corniness, of course, otherwise they won't take it seriously. Oh, and if you do nothing about rapists, you are doing nothing about rape. Rapists are why rape happens. Taking precautions only prevents certain rapes, and does not prevent the existence of a rapist.

I'm not disavowing rapists of blame for raping like you would a lion for killing, but i'm just saying that telling a rapist to not rape is as useful as telling a lion not to kill

So your only contribution to stop a rapist is: education
We have done this, it doesn't work.

Which is why rapists go to prison. Another point that Thunderf00t brought up is that we already teach our children not to rape, the same way we teach them not to steal.

Our education is 'No means No'. That is not very compelling education. Plus, as none of you addressed, it is very women focused and thus it is viewed as a woman's problem rather than everyone's issue.

Yeah, rapists go to prison. Sometimes. Many rapes are not reported. I wonder why. And speaking of prison, with its high amounts of rape, innocent people go to jail - how do THEY prevent being raped in prison?

OK, no it isn't, and how would you go about educating kids specifically in ways that we don't already

And there are things to be done about theft, murder, and crime in general. These things tend to decrease when education and quality of living increase.

Teach kids why rape is not okay. How children and women and men and gender non-conforming people can be raped. What rape does to the body, what it does to the mind. And as I just mentioned, overall an increase in better education will help with crime.

What is YOUR plan to prevent rape?
