Fifty Questions That Christians Can't Answer

RE: Fifty Questions That Christians Can't Answer
They have trouble with outright scorn. For far too long they got used to the idea that people had to "respect" their beliefs.

They sure can dish out the disrespect, though.

By the way, love the Mencken quote. My favorite of his is "Legend is a lie that has attained the dignity of age."

They think god is on their side. Such beliefs have made people insufferable throughout history.

Here's a great collection of Mencken quotes.

This is my fav but its too long to be used as a sig here.

Quote:God is the immemorial refuge of the incompetent, the helpless, the miserable. They find not only sanctuary in His arms, but also a kind of superiority, soothing to their macerated egos: He will set them above their betters.

Quite right. Having a big, bad deity on your side does tend to make you cocky.

That is a fantastic quote! Mencken is the man. I think I might start worshiping him.
This one made me giggle: "The scent of frying astronomers long ago ceased to ascend to Yahweh."

Got another one for you Shell B...

Now that we established Lucifer = Morning star
now lets open our books to Revelations (aka rantings of a madman) 22:16
it refers to Jesus as guess...yep The Morning Star
Jesus= Morning Star = Lucifer.....Jesus = Lucifer

JESUS IS THE DEVIL
Did I make a good point? thumbs up Smile I cant help it I'm a Kudos whore. P.S. Jesus is a MYTH.

thanks for posting the link, Minimalist. I've heard of some of those quotes, and enjoyed nearly all. Funny though, Mencken talks of men from (eastern) Tennessee quite a bit, and it looks as though he covered the Scopes Trial for newspapers?

That famous trial occurred less than 20 miles from my home. Even now, almost a century later, bigotry is rampant throughout this area. Hell, I personally know a school board member there who is incredibly prejudiced. The man swears that 'the only thing worse than a homo is a white woman with a black man, god help us...' Sadly, his own granddaughter is a beautiful curly haired angel with big happy eyes (who is bi-racial) and the family scoops her up to be HIDDEN AWAY when he comes around. This happened on the 4th of July (talk about irony!) Such a despicable excuse for a human, and to think he is in charge of 'educating' children???

I cannot wait to move my wife & children out of this place. In the meantime, there's pleasure in reading posts like this one. Wink

(thank you too, Shell B, for starting this thread)

Complete nonsense Min. I respect your informed opinion... your mindless attacks however make you look like an idiot and are unworthy of you and a response. I, and I suspect other Christians, have no issue with your choice of belief or not belief. I can make like an adolescent I'm sure you've noticed, yeh it's fun. You don't bother engaging anyone with a different opinion to you on the subject, which seems a little revealing... not of your intelligence but rather a lack of it.

They forget that people only have to respect their right to hold those beliefs.

We are not in turn required to have any respect for those beliefs.

One does not require the other.

Frodo, I don't care what you think. Believing in invisible sky-daddies taints your opinions as any kind of rational observer anyway. Although I'm sure you can't quite grasp that.
