I say this because of my personal struggles. But you can't base how you think others should act simply upon your own experiences. The brain is complex, and people are diversely hardwired. This means you can't judge how well someone should cope with their emotions. I mean, I agree that, as a society, we've become a bunch of whiny pussies that our ancestors would laugh at, and it seems that without death looming around every corner, we focus on the trivial. But that doesn't mean one can reasonably expect that others ought to have the ability to cope with situations as well as they have based on nothing more than their own experiences.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Depressed people are good candidates to winning the Darwin award! Even when failing, you can win! We are the generation of winners! Re: RE: Is there anyone here that is NOT depressed?

I say this because of my personal struggles. My hypothesis is based on my life experiences. I had a breakdown many years ago. I tried the stupid drugs they offer. They make you more fucked up in my opinion. I learned to get a different perspective on life and to practice rigid self discipline. I have no depression, no anxiety, ect. At times I feel the influence of external forces trying to get me down but I simply reject it and I choose how I feel. I have learned to be like this fellow.
Not depressed, and I'm not going to buy that atheists have any particular tendency to be depressed without good numbers to back it up. I know that there is a correlation between higher suicide rates and less relgious countries (and lower murder rates, which I will take any day of the week over low suicide rates), but that doesn't necessarily imply greater rates of depression: it might be lower rates of thinking suicide lands you in hell, for instance.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.
I'm not depressed at all. I'm quite happy, actually
