What exactly is your point other than you don't have all the facts but you still play armchair judge on this?

What do you think this old man should have done, asked them for some ID to see if they were old enough to be held responsible for attacking him?

The old man didn't have time to make a judgment call, but I still consider this a bad outcome. Surely it would have been better to leave these kids' punishment to a jury rather than a deadly weapon in the hands of a frantic old man, hence less force would have been better. Should they be trained to take a shot or a stab or two if the perp is young?

Maybe guns are the most cost-efficient means to self defense that we currently have, but we could do better. We wouldn't need to exercise so much caution if our weapons weren't so deadly.

The old man did act reasonably here, but that's just one case out of many. It's a tricky thing trying out how to control guns. I'm on the fence on what the hell to do about the gun issue, because either way some one is going to get screwed so it's basically just trying to figure out what is going to do the bigger damage. If people don't have them then they can't protect them selves, but if everyone has them a lot of innocent folk are also going to get screwed. Bleh. Heck, if I know, but nothing has seemed to work so far. Alcohol kills more people than guns and there isn't much of a fuss, lol. Have they even put alcohol purchase restrictions on peoples driver's licenses for having multiple DUIs? Our most fatal drug is served around every corner. Oh, I'm not anti-booze at all, but I'm just saying it's a little ironic.

If I owned a gun, and I was that man, I would have done the same.
