If a cat brings you a dead mouse or bird as a present, it's because it thinks you don't know how to hunt and is trying to teach you. What it's expecting you to do is eat the offering and then go off and catch one for yourself.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Depends on the cat.

RE: My Roommate's Cat Just Killed a Bird
I say good job kitty! I have several bird feeders in my yard. I get finches, jays, doves, titmice and more. My cat is an indoor cat and she can spend hours looking at the birds feeding right outside the window. I can tell she's frustrated by the amount of birds (prey) that come into her territory, with her unable to thin the flocks. She's gotta be pissed.

Anyway, the joke is on me. I have several bird feathers in my home (fans, decorations, fetishes, artwork etc,) and the other day when I came out of the bedroom and into the living room - what did I find all mauled and being presented to me as an offering of respect? My favorite hand-made fan of 4 different bird feathers. At first I was almost angry, but when I realized that I had invited this instinctual creature to live in my home with me, and then forbade her from acting on her instincts, that perhaps I was the one at fault. Now I've moved the decorations into an area of my home where the cat is not permitted. It would be awesome if we (humans) come to realize that this Earth owns and rules us, and we do not own her.

PS - Are any of the feathers usable? What species of bird was it? Might as well use the gifts you've been offered.

I once foolishly though I could have hamsters and my 2 cats on the same house, seeing the critters were (supposedly) safe in their cage. They took a while, but when they figured out a way to get to the mice, it was a massacre. Yeah, predators.

You mean Tom and Jerry, tweety and silvester, or speedy and silvester cartoons weren't based on facts?

My roommate wants to get a bird. I've been fighting that one for years. It's like: what's the point? It's just gonna die in our house anyway.

Let's just say that any rodents heads will be offered to me as a token of their gratitude. The dog is the head of security, at least him will scare some humans.
