First demonstrate comparable intelligence to humans before anthropomorphizing.

They don't do it amongst themselves. They're very good with the bigeyes, “look how cute I am“ stuff. And we fall for it! I don't fall for it. I sense the evil a cat radiates the second I enter a room. ***shudder
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.
What you've stumbled into there is the kitten not knowing any better and the mother mewing back in the only way her child knows, saying “shush dear, you'll make the humans suspicious.“
Don't let the cats know that you know, basically.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
I like and appreciate cats but I don't condone letting them roam around outside where they can decimate the bird population. (Funny but I'm completely unfazed by their impact on rodents.) If a bell doesn't do it you have to choose between making the cat happy and doing the right thing. (I like birds too.)

So how, exactly, does God know that She's NOT a brain in a vat?
(June 14, 2014 at 11:25 am)JuliaL Wrote: Why? Because what can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence. You have asserted that cats make conscious choices. Now prove to me that they make conscious choices similar to that of humans as your analogy is highly dependent upon that relation. Slave to the Patriarchy no more

It's not just about making her happy, though. My cat has been climbing screen doors and windows since she was a tiny kitten. She will, like I've said now a few times, literally rip my house to shreds... and she doesn't kill things. She actually hangs out on the back porch, and rarely wanders. It's the other cat who (rarely) kills things, and I refuse to let my house get ripped to shreds for three or four small animals. Sounds like you know your cat well. I'd let a cat outside if it wasn't destructive. My brother's cat lives in doors but will go outside when they do sometimes. It sticks around mostly because it is old and the neighbor's cats would kick its ass if it jumped the fence. |
