I am saying whatever happens between mr and mrs rice is between them and the rest of us should stay out of it unless we are asked, just like mrs. Rice requested.

ESPN is reporting that a law-enforcement source claims to have provided the video to the NFL back in April, and played a voicemail --claiming it to be from a person at the NFL HQ in New York-- acknowledging the receipt of the tape and that its contents were indeed disturbing. The NFL has now launched an "independent" investigation into the matter. My guess? The owners realize that Goodell has become a toxic asset and are going through the motions to remove him and possibly one or two other league officials in the hopes of 'settling' the matter.

I am saying whatever happens between mr and mrs rice is between them and the rest of us should stay out of it unless we are asked, just like mrs. Rice requested.

As far as I am aware, the extent of anyone's involvement here has been to discuss the matter and express opinions. The NFL, as has already been discussed, has a business interest in presenting itself in a positive social light and has decided that it must address the issue of domestic violence among its players. The CBA between the league and players union has clauses regarding personal conduct outside of league activities, due to the realization that these can reflect badly on the league and harm its brand.

It's not surprising that Mrs. Rice would ask for people to leave them alone; victims of abuse will often seek to shield their abusers. To ignore cases like this and the opportunity they represent to bring the matter up for public discussion hurts the many women who are in abusive relationships and unable to get the help that they need.
