Existence of Israel is fulfillment of Biblical prophesies

RE: Existence of Israel is fulfillment of Biblical prophesies
And it was the Six Day War which triggered the archaeological re-assessment which has led to the finding that the Old Testament is a pile of shit.

Ironic, huh?

Not sure if that is irony, but it sure is entertaining!

Quote:5.
an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected.

In the aftermath of the 6-Day War an entire generation of young Israeli scholars set off to the West Bank and Sinai expecting to find "evidence" of a massive Late Bronze Age movement of people into what is now Israel.

They found NOTHING.

Rather than do what early xtian "scholars" did ( invent stuff) they re-evaluated their fairy tales on the basis of the evidence which has led to the current understanding that there was no Conquest of the area by the "Israelites" in the Late Bronze Age or before or after. In fact, the Theory of Indigenous Origin now has the Israelites coalescing slowly in the early Iron Age and gradually spreading out.

No Joshua. No Moses. No Abraham. Just a lot of heroic horseshit written by later authors..... a technique well known to the authors of heroic poetry such as the Iliad and Odyssey.

Ok, now that I know that little bit of info, it is kinda ironic.

That's what I was thinking. The Jewish state of Israel was and is surrounded by many Muslim states, and for some strange reason, the Muslims hate the Jews (even though they believe in the same God), and they obliterated the state of Israel. After the Holocaust there was a big push for a Jewish state because everyone felt bad for the Jews.

So long as Israel doesn't do anything horrendously stupid (from a military perspective)... it would be very difficult for it to be taken over.

@the wiki: I hardly believe it would be obliterated instantly... but I highly doubt that Israel could commit to a long campaign against the enemies you noted and survive. Observe a far greater power than Israel: Napoleon's France. It overreached in Russia, and was overrun with the sheer numbers Prussia, Austria, Sweden, Russia, Great Britain, Spain, and Portugal were together able to field. For Israel to be obliterated... it would have to overreach (and be subsequently 'dogpiled'), have its opponents grow militarily strong enough to wound it (or outright defeat it), and/or lose the diplomatic support of "the west" (which would have grave long term effects for Israel).

Xtians aren't talking about "learning", Pad. They are talking about accepting it without question.

Major difference.

Indeed. I have no doubt that is true of many, but it's not what I meant. I was referring to learning to actually learn and to understand.. For example as part of a degree course, which is what I did with the Qur'an and Aborigine myths and legends.

From that time on, I've also read the sacred books and myths of several other cultures,,ranging from Sumeria,to Egypt to South America to India. I do not consider any of that time wasted.

Spend a little time talking to some asshole who insists the world was covered in water to the tops of the mountain tops and you'd know what I mean.

Wasting time reading genesis will not bring one to any sort of understanding about it...other than that it is a pile of shit, but we already know that. And when you bother to point out that there is not enough water on earth to cover the existing land mass they will reply with "god can do anything." They find magic in their books and magic is their excuse for everything.

I often ask why, if their fucking god can to "anything" that he couldn't design the world properly the first time? They invent all sorts of shit to answer that one, too.

They probably weren't atheists but it is unlikely that many of them believed the Bible or know much about what it teaches.

He was descended from David because Mary was a descendant of David.

There would be plenty of water if the surface of the earth were more level and that was apparently the case before the flood. Here is how the flood is described in Genesis 7:11, "In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of the heavens were opened." Apparently there was some sort of geological upheaval that brought forth water that was formerly under the earth and the final result of this was that the continents rose to their present height.

He did design the world properly but one of the results of Adam's sin was that it became imperfect. You can read all about it in the third chapter of Genesis.
His invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
