MERGED: The Case for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ (Part 1) & (Part 2)
RE: MERGED: The Case for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ (Part 1) & (Part 2)
Advanced as that, eh?
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

The thing that I really am interested in is how much people really believe, compared to their professed beliefs. Their actions often make it clear that on a fundamental level, their instincts do not believe it. But if their instincts matched their supposed beliefs, I would have no doubt in labelling that person mentally ill.

So... I don't know how to phrase it other than they are on a sliding scale between lying and mentally ill. I suppose you have to make allowance for the fact that they may not be aware they are lying. But what would you call that other than delusional/mentally ill?

I'm not trying to be mean here, but realistically I cannot see another way to describe what I see. Can anyone help me out?

I'm also not saying it's their fault, people can be driven to be mentally ill by the way people treat them.

@robvalue,

Have you read Dennetts "Breaking the Spell", it might contain some things that interest you

or the old "you just don't want to believe."

Forgetting that many atheists, perhaps the majority in places like the US, were once theists. I guess they just weren't the right 'type' of theist/Xtian.

We're in the 21st century, but reading the thoughts of some of these guys you'd think we were still in the 12th.

Hey rob, look!

Just wanted to commend the mods for getting all the shit into one bin. Surprised you found one big enough.

Haha yeah, good job guys!

I think until one single point has been established even partially, let alone beyond reasonable doubt, there's no need for more threads. And call me a pessimist if you want, but it's not going to happen is it.

However, HM seems to be deciding for us whether we are convinced. If one person on the forum has been convinced of anything they weren't already convinced of by this, I'd be interested to hear about it.

I wouldn't know. I don't read his posts. I'm just here for the piling on and so forth. Pretty sure he enjoys it as much as we do.

Well, they are special ... just not in the way that they'd like to think.

Course he does.

We'd be best of friends we all followed suit and got a lobotomy.
