I think that those who identify as Biblical Christians are differentiating themselves from organized religion and the idea that you should get your beliefs from the pulpit. Which is not an irrational idea; if the Bible is god's word to mankind, then why wouldn't anyone be able to read it and figure it out? This is complicated somewhat by the tens of thousands of ways that it gets interpreted, but that's not a problem if you don't think it was written (or inspired) by god.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

I've found my fundie friends in the USian south to practise something like that - I thought at the time that it was a very American democratic kind of Christianity, where at least you pretend not to take anything on blind authority from living people and every individual is empowered to go to the source themselves.

I was basically raised vague mainstream protestant, but I got over it around the time I turned 12.
I don't feel like I woke up one day atheist, it was neary unnoticeably gradual. I'd say though the change would be completed by 23, after my second deployment.

What exactly is "Biblical Christianity" and how does it differ from other protestant sects that also assert the ultimate authority of scripture?
In every country and every age, the priest had been hostile to Liberty.

Thinking about it, if you're going to do something - take a good aim, mash your foot to the floor, let go of the brake and hold on.
Kinda like drag racing.

I consider myself to a non-denominational christian. I get my beliefs from the bible which I consider to be a product of the apostles and the early church being guided by the Holy Spirit. I view the christian church as the apostle Paul did, which is the body of the followers of Jesus Christ. We're all saved through our faith in Christ, not by what we believe, say, about whether we should baptize infants or only age of reason believers. This is biblical christianity. It's like Americans, for instance. We're democrats, republicans, independents, libertarians, etc, but we're all Americans with the same desire to do what is right for the country. Denominations are a result of people dividing themselves, not of God dividing them.
