What he actually said was that a person's beloved pets would be there in heaven with them. It's all still christiainity of course, god, heaven etc. but I am heartened by the relatively rapid change in position. I mean, it took the Vatican 150 years to come down on the side of evolution. It'll be interesting to hear all the backlash that is sure to come out of the religious right, especially the fundies.

I think he is right in saying that we don't need to believe, after all just because we believe doesn't mean we are evil, many non believers are more moral than the religious thinking. If there is such thing as a god, then I'm sure he would not judge one as evil just because he didn't believe in him, lets face it, with all the confusion of all religions, its more or less like playing Russian Roulette.

Press release today: "In order for the holy mother Church to remain relevant in the 21st century and better be able to face the challenges of the modern world, His Holiness has decreed that Catholic dogma be adjusted to better reflect strong recent indications that there is no God. Effective immediately, all atheists are officially Catholic by default and should act accordingly."
