My privilege as a straight, white, cisgender, middle class thin male

If you are too fat to fit in the chairs, whether that be the cinema, airplane or rollercoaster, you should lose some weight.

I'll be damned if I leave it up to the airlines to define the appropriate size human when all they know are sardine dynamics. Still I wish I did fit in those seats. Oh the wardrobe I have in storage for that glad day.

Also like to add that there is no such thing as 'thin privilege'. Despite what some people believe, everyone can lose weight, it just depends on how much you want it. It is something that can be changed about you. In fact, the world is catering for obesity more than ever. Also, as a thin person myself, I find it quite difficult to find clothes that fit. The smallest size i've ever seen is XXS whereas the largest i have seen is XXXXXL but do I put it down to 'fat privilege'? Lol you must be really smart and have skipped the definition of privilege - It means one group possesses higher social power over the other - I too as a medium size male have trouble getting decent fitting clothes, I'm actually about 5kg overweight and I wear a short size for my shirts - However a simple fact like that doesn't change stupid assumptions and stereotypes made about fat people. I've been fat, I'm average now, and I can feel a tremendous difference socially, I'm not called lazy, I'm more likely to be seen as a respectful person, I'm not assumed to be unhealthy even though I smoke a lot and rarely exercise - No one is promoting fat here, but fat shaming isn't the solution either IMO.

After the facts I've mentioned, it's unreasonable to say being thin doesn't give you privileges - It does - I'm not talking about dating or feeling sexually attracted, or trying to give fat people more than to thin people, I'm just saying fat people should at least be as respected as others when it comes to basic human dignity

And the fact fat people have the right to clothes that fit is not a privilege, it's a right and nothing else

1) How did you find out that if you were gay you were less likely to be hired?

2) I'd be very surprised if you aren't mocked or discriminated against over something you have no control over, even as a straight white person, I can probably list at least 50 things I've been mocked for that I have no control over.

3)I'm surprised no one has ever commented on the sexual practices you might have. Also I think it is highly likely that gay male couples do have more anal sex than straight male and female couples.

4)Again, surprised you have never been stereotyped before, non gay people get that all the time, and straight men usually are stereotyped that they have to like sport, fast cars, beer and fighting.

On being white.

1)How do you know you got the job you have because you're white?

2) Personally I think it's more likely a person is discriminated against because of how they act, dress and look like in general, rather than race.

3)Again this is just personal but I have heard plenty of jokes about white people

4) I got told I looked like a caveman in work and told to change my hair when I grew it, I didn't consider it to be discrimination or complain about it, I was just simply slightly annoyed by it, so again I don't see this as something only a black person goes through.

5) I don't hear many white racial stereotypes apart from on tv or youtube when I watch black american comedy shows.
I have heard some in person but I don't live around any black americans so it's usually from asians.

6) I don't work in media or know how the media judges how it's going to report a story so I don't know if they're just reporting the news or if they have some sort of racial conspiracy against certain people like you say.

7) Your race is objectified as a form of fetish, and I'm very very thankful for it, I've been with black and asian girls who said they love white men and so on, and I'm pretty sure the asian girl in particular was having sex with me just to annoy her parents.
Plus the fact that in pornography your race is about 100 times more likely to be portrayed as weak and pathetic and the most likely porn story is going to be that your race is being dominated by a black male.

Of course you can talk about all of those things, you can't however claim that you're being oppressed when your group possesses the majority of social power.

I didn't claim that.

Everyone's racist, I get that, blacks, latinos, asians, every ethnicity is racist to an extent, but the problem is that the only racism that results in marginalization and lower life quality is white racism towards other groups. Are you actually saying people can't change privilege?

Since privelge is how society treats you, no. You cannot change the fact that you are white, straight, cis male, and you cannot stop people treating you accordingly. The only thing you can do is apologise for factors outside of your control. Not only is that useless and pointless, it's not fair.

No. Where did you get that from?

I'll give you one example, most people think black people do more drugs but there's several studies that show whites do as many or sometimes more drugs than blacks. If a member of my community was mistreated or murdered, maybe I'd react violently too, I'm not a fan of peaceful revolutions and I think aggressive stands are more effective to help changing things. You are saying people should be extra careful to not break the law, when in fact the statistics show more black people are shot (unarmed) compared to armed whites who aren't shot.

I said that black people are fully aware that they are discriminated against, particularly by the police. And that they shouldn't give the police any reason to come after them. They should be extra careful because they know that they will be targeted. And yet the black community of Ferguson, rioted and looted over the 'unjust' shooting of Brown because they believed it was caused by racism and discrimination. And yet they perpetuate the very stereotype that causes racist police officers to target black people by looting. They are hurting themseleves because of their delusions of constant victim hood, everything is the fault of the white man, no responsibilty is taken for their own actions. All this because they believe so entirely that white people are priveliged.

Then do you also recognize that who has privilege will change depending on situation? For example, white people have greater privilege most the time, but if you're white and living in a ghetto neighborhood, you can literally get killed for that. Being tall is generally advantageous, but it makes it a nightmare for me to find clothes that fit. Males are generally considered to have privilege, even though male suicide rates and workplace fatalitie rates are far higher for them than for women.

Can you recognize these differences in situation or do you view privilege as some monolythic, adamant concept?

As far as thin privilege goes, I have a friend who's one of those people who can't put on weight no matter how much she eats. She regularly gets told to eat a damn cheesburger or accused of being anorexic. I guess that's all part of thin privilege too, isn't it?
