I'd also like to add that the believers arguing "no true Christian" are in essence damning other Christians with their judgement, and thereby stepping into their god's province. It takes an awful lot of arrogance to do that.

Actually - there are Thousands of different religions in which a "christ" is considered one of or the god - and belief in any one of them qualifies you to be a "christian". THat is the problem with xtianity - no matter what you believe - you can find some "church" who is willing to take your money. There is NO set belief or set of beliefs other than a "title" - which "christ" is - not a name.
Since it is unquestionably absolutely true that there was NO such person named Jesus Christ who lived in the time between 6 BCE and 35 CE - you can make all the rest of the story up too.
And they do - down to the point of using Olde English pronunciation of the bible as being required - even when english did not exist at that time.

The hijack is confirmed pretty well by the number of hits you get on youtube with the search phrase, "rabbi jesus not the messiah."
You get less official but more entertaining hits with the phrase, "lewis black jesus not the messiah."

I love Luis Black and I know it is stand up, and certainly still funny, but Jews don't get a pass either. The OT God is still a dictator, no matter how much he wants to paint him as simply a parent trying to get his children to behave. This God was still not elected to his position, he cannot be removed, and the OT violence goes way beyond merely arrest and trial. It still talks about slavery, and how girls and women are to be treated and paints them as property, not equals.
And even with modern Jews you have differences, liberal Jews do not side with the Orthodox Jews even if they support Netenyahu. And younger Jews in the west especially don't always side with Israel's tactics to the same degree as their parents.
On top of Yahweh coming from the Canaanite polytheism prior.

As far as I can see, the only meaningful criteria that is required to call someone a christian is that they say they are a Christian.
The only criteria required to call yourself a true christian is that you call yourself a true christian.
If you say your imaginary pet octopus is called Keith and lives in wonder land, I'm not going argue with you.
