Okay let me rephrase that, I don't judge someone based on their parents.

The truth is absolute. Life forms are specks of specks (...) of specks of dust in the universe.
Why settle for normal, when you can be so much more? Why settle for something, when you can have everything?
I don't judge because I do things wrong too

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.
I going to put it out there, I'm horrible at explaining myself.
Ha. Don't worry, it's often hard to express yourself on the interwebz. Kudos for admitting it

Good for you for saying that, you're much more moral than this stupid doctor. That's the first theist opposing this, I'm sad to say! But I'm glad to finally see one.

Indeed. I have no problem with doctors choosing specialities which fit their preferences (e.g. 'I don't agree with abortions therefore I'm going to work in a different area of medicine'); I also have no problem with doctors witholding their services in specific cases but only for certain reasons (e.g. suffering threats of violence from a drunk patient). I find that this case fits none of those criteria as the doctor was already a paediatrician and the patient was doing nothing wrong. She had a medical & professional responsibility (if not obligation) to treat the child. Her actions were simply unprofessional. In the UK, a complaints tribunal could impose sanctions ranging from temporary suspension all the way up to being permanently struck off. I'm amazed that anyone would even try to defend her actions.
Sum ergo sum
I hold the view that you shouldn't be able to refuse a service due to who someone is ie race,sexuality.etc. However I believe you shouldn't be forced to make something if it goes against your beliefs.

That's actually covered by ethical standards. The first thing you hear when training to be a medic is self preservation always tops saving others. But it's totally unethical to refuse treatment because you don't like what the patient stands for. Total bullshit. Belief as the killer argument opens all kinds of doors to get away with unethical and despicable behavior. If you don't want to treat some people because of your belief system, you should make that decision before going to med school and enter in a profession that is rightfully held to the most serious ethical standards. |
