RE: How do I get over that "feeling" that god exists?

If a god existed that did care about only one section of the carbon based primates over all others, he's already a psycho and it's all out of your hands either way. If there is a god of divine justice, then he would be fair and non-ego-maniacal. Why fear being treated perfectly fairly? The silly christians sell "sin" as though we are greatly in arrears in payments of adoration to a jealous micro-managing god. Take away the micromanaged rules written by bronze age goat lovers and you're only left with the justice of how you've treated your neighbors given a fair assessment of your mitigating factors.
A judgment like that is nothing to fear, it would be like being judged by your mother.

I have been around so many conservative religious people who kept telling me I'm going to burn in hell, over and over again, throughout my childhood, and add to that the whole concept of hell in Christianity, also all the bad stuff that's been done in the name of religion, basically, I cannot get over this "feeling" or fear and I don't know what else to do. I'm not going back to religion... well... not without evidence, and I don't want this fear or "feeling" to run my life.
Is it possible that the reason this is still happening is because my former religion has been traumatic for me? Or is this normal because it's only been 3 months? How do I get rid of this "feeling" and fear? Will it disappear with time? Thanks a bunch. You don't get over your feelings. Because god does exist.
Here's the issue. Atheism is the art of trying to feel that there is no purpose after life and the universe is just one big accident with no meaning.
Deep deep down in your soul (which atheists don't have) you know this mentally is false. This is why I feel atheists feel angry all the time, they are fighting an internal subconcious struggle. You heart says one thing, but your atheist mind is trying to convince you otherwise.

Ignore this little troll baby!
He's obviously a mal-adjusted liar-fer-jesus who thinks his heart is a magical body organ that isn't just a pump for blood, but instead is a magic god sensor connected to flying sky gods that sprinkle fairy dust on their favorite ape clan.
He has to mis-characterize atheism, because the true description of "unconvinced of fanciful magic and ritualistic rules that come from a hiding god" is so much harder to argue against.
Quite pathetic of him to portray himself as an atheist whose religion is satan..

I've been an athiest for more than half my life now and I can tell you that feeling will fade. The first year is very confusing because your leaving a large group and going a path most likely alone. Then throw in people trying to convert you back sometimes aggressively and it makes it worse. Just stay true to your own views and don't allow yourself to be bullied. Also take pride in having the courage to take the path less traveled by. When you need someone to talk to we'll be here :-) .

To Original Poster - pay no attention to these blasphemours like the one above.
Go with your gut feeling and what your heart tells you. Come to the light my child, atheism is the path to the dark side of evil.
Atheists have no morals, no purpose in life, they are worse than emos who live in a dark void of loneliness with no 'guardian angels' protecting you.
Atheism is worst than a cult of satanic worshippers, they worship GOVERNMENT as their god secrectly and love the gay's as their demonic overlords.

I think your best shot is to read into the history of religion, to give it a feel of man-made mythology.
And if that doesn't work, go to a music festival and take some magic mushrooms.
If the hypothetical idea of an afterlife means more to you than the objectively true reality we all share, then you deserve no respect.

It is kind of hard if you were in that mind-set that God powers everything you see and now you practically have to learn to think again from the start and deal with life in this "new" way. And you're constantly reminded of it since society was built to exploit this totalitarian mind-set with: one god, one factory owner, one king, one pope, one father-leader in the family at home... Unless they're family then they can sometimes together rule. Have you also noticed how every pantheon of gods is shamelessly nepotistic?
What you could believe is in potential of human beings. Notion that we only have each-other to count on for every danger and threat that awaits us is a powerful one and that we should do more to better our lives and lives of others. Right now one of the more prominent news is death of many hundreds emigrants from Africa on the sea that are running away into EU. Well they wouldn't be running away if the rest of the world decided to use Africa as a garbage dump. So yeah it would be really nice if more people would be aware of the notion mentioned above and in human potential. I mean humans have put a space craft into Saturn's orbit, surely they could make this planet into a much better place.
