Corollary: a woman who is happy and single is in love; a woman who is unhappy and single is a career-minded bitch who just needs a man.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

When the hero is in a tough spot and is unarmed, there always happens to be a convenient pistol just lying around.

"The alien probe is three days from Earth - you're the only ship in range!"
"Hold on... so basically you're saying there's no other ships within three days of the hub of the Federation? Or within three days of the probe?"

There's clearly a killer on the loose, so the cast decides to split up, unarmed, and with no means of communicating with one another
(other than screams of death, which the cast members will blindly go to investigate one by one). And, it's midnight, but they can't wait until morning to see what the racket was. And nobody calls the cops. Or locks the doors.

Every horror movie ever:
Guy/girl decides to investigate a noise on their own. Bonus points if the noise originated in a garage, attic, or in the woods.

Every soap opera ever, all the time, every day:
Someone is outside a room and hears someone talking, stops and eavesdrops.
If they removed this "plot device" I think soaps would instantly have to fold.
