Unfortunately it is not a solution in any respect, beleifs are not something you can just change on a whim. It is going with the flow and letting other people think for you instead of learning to think for yourself and solve your problems in a way that is a benefit to all parties involved. Your solution, Future was for her to throw away her beleifs and just go with the beleifs of other people to avoid conflict.

We understand that you did not intend to offend but, you basically said that people should not think for themselves or act as an individual, instead they should just do what they are told by the authority and beleive what they are told to beleive. This in essence leads to a loss of freedom, and does not help the opinion that the church desires power over people.

Whether or not that is what you meant to say that is what I gathered from your statments.

I don't really have anything to add but I sympathize with your problem. My aunt (who I live with) is an extremely religous Christian and rejects my atheistness (haha). She tells me I'm missing out on an important part of my life by not having spirituality, is constantly talking about the bible to me, telling me we are in the 'generation of the fig tree' and the end of the world is coming soon... I mostly just ignore it because its not worth the fight, im not going to change her mind and she has just reaffirmed my nonbelief with her fairytales BUT I hate that somehow she thinks everything she says has more value or worth then me simply because shes a christian... The fact that shes a christian (in her mind) seems to make her beliefs more important then mine. For example, she thinks its ok to preach the bible to me but if I ever rebutted against it, that would be offensive. In reality it goes both ways, but she doesnt live in reality.

Most christians think that their position of faith is unarguable and therefore are not interested in what you have to say against it.I always say you can hit a christian in the face with all the evidence in the world to contradict their beliefs but if they are committed to their beliefs faith will always prevail.Atheism does not just happen for ex christians I can attest to the fact that it's a growing process.And like all addictions the decision to let it go comes from within and no one from the outside can change that.They may pique your curiosity but the next step is up to you to research it objectively and then decide if you want to maintain your beliefs or let them go for logic.
