Substitutive sacrifice never counts. We're constantly told that 'Jesus died for your sins'. What isn't explained (not coherently at least) is how the temporary, foreseen and pre-ordained 'sacrifice' of God to God in any way abrogates sin or makes salvation possible.
Suppose I rob a bank and in the process shoot and kill two of the clerks. While the penalty of this sort of thing varies from place to place, let's be civilized and assume that it is life imprisonment. Just as I'm about to be sentenced, some kind-hearted individual (Minimalist, for instance) bursts into to courtroom and says that he'll serve my prison term if I'm set free.
Aside from the obvious immediate benefit to your Humble Narrator, how does Min's act ameliorate the robbery and murders that I committed? I'm still guilty of the crimes, I still deserve to be punished.
To carry the analogy even further, suppose the presiding magistrate accepts Min's offer. However, three days after Min goes to prison, the magistrate eliminates the rest of the sentence, and Min is set free.
Who in their right mind would think that the situation is just or fair??
