Would you simply prohibit any sharing of beliefs in order to qualify for tax-exempt status? Historically, a lot of mission work has been very beneficial to other cultures. For example, William Carey's mission work in India helped end the practice of Sati, the burning of widows.
Missionary work always comes with a price tag attached. As opposed to Doctors wihtout borders to name only one really charitable organisation. It's not sharing of beliefs, it's forcing it on others in order for them to get a few benefits offered.
For every good missionary work may have done, I can offer a lot of bad. Such as advertising and supporting anti gay legislations in African countries pretty recently.
