We don't know if it came from anywhere for sure, it may have just always existed in some shape or form.

If it did come from something, then it's not the universe but just a sub-reality. That would still leave the same questions about the parent reality.

I don't think it's likely we will ever be fully able to answer these questions. But I believe we'll get closer.
