No, it is not, you've missed a significant distinction. Soldiers use violence and intimidation, and are not, by doing so, terrorists. It is also -who- you use that violence against. There's no need for me to distance myself from the KKK, as I do not share even one piece of their ideology. If I were a non-violent white supremecist who..quixotically, didn't think my white supremecism should be the ruling paradigm, I would need to distance myself - as the average muslims need to distance themselves from muslim terrorists. If the manner in which I distanced myself was "the kkk aren't true white supremecists" I would expect to be called out on my bullshit.
