Bad advertisment on your part. And I'm not only speaking of what makes the news and what doesn't. It's also when asked who's the greatest American of all time in some poll, people tend to come up with generals, sometimes presidents and hardly ever with artists, writers or philosophers.
Not sure why you think I'm advertising anything -- just pointing out the things I like about my country.
As for what other Americans think the great Americans are, that's their opinion. It says more about their (lack of) education or breadth of thought than it does about the country itself. America has produced great writers and artists, but not so much philosophers -- that's a discipline many Americans, myself included, consider abstruse to the point of being disconnected from the real world. "Ivory tower" is a pejorative here, and rightly so, in my opinion.
