Aaron Sorkin is a great television writer. I loved The West Wing also.
It's good to keep in mind though, that at the end of the day it's art and nothing more. It's beautiful and internally consistent and it inspires people but it seldom describes reality as it is, nor is it it's purpose to do so. Rather it's a means for culture to reflect on itself, albeit from afar and with unrealistic expectations of what it achieves by doing so.
