I was near such a device not too long ago, and it was just really really tough to be around it. The large diesel motor, the noise, and the long time for it to spool up, and later, to spin down, and it was really disturbing.
You can't help but think about that sort of thing the entire time it's on. How that kid did not have an intense fear/respect of the thing is astonishing.
