I think the reasoning was that since all people will die eventually and since God allows this to happen, and since I believe in God, I therefore should not have anything against people talking about wanting whole categories of innocent people to get killed.
Oh, and "innocent" was another issue for them as well. Since Catholics believe that no one is completely perfect, and that we all do things wrong sometimes, this supposedly means that we don't think there is such a thing as "innocent people who shouldn't get killed."
