It doesn't really matter what the Pope thinks. The Pope shouldn't even be considered a world leader. He's only influential because people think he's got a pipeline to heaven. Of course he doesn't have one. He can't talk to God any more than anyone else can.
If people look to him for a source of morality, then they're looking in the wrong place. The Catholic Church is one of the most immoral, corrupt groups on the planet. And unlike other corrupt immoral groups, they have the influence. They're a despicable group of people. If I were God, I'd be ashamed to have those people represent me. I think that the Catholic Church is one of the best evidences against Jesus there is. In fact I'm ashamed to have at one time considered myself a catholic. At the very least i can say it wasn't by choice but by indoctrination.
