Either they properly conform to non-profit or charitable status, or they get taxed. Seems simple enough. Why is selling a load of imaginary horseshit a reason for tax exemption?
And either way, why should their books be closed? That's nothing to do with church/state either. That's an admission of corruption and/or not conforming with charitable status.

Religion shouldn't need to be bribed to keep itself out of politics. It should have the decency to respect the separation.
