You know what? I'm still fuming about this.
The above verses could have read:
"The Lord said to Moses, Say to Aaron: 'For the generations to come, all of your descendants shall have a birthright to come near to offer the food of his God; you shall not prohibit equal access to a man with a crippled foot or hand, or who is a hunchback or a dwarf, or who has any eye defect, or who has sickness or damaged testicles. Any descedant of Aaron the priest is to come near to present the food offerings to the Lord, for all mankind are my children, and shall be free to worship as is their right. Whether or not they do this, they may eat the most holy food of God, as well as the holy food; and never because of their differences shall you deny them to go near the curtain or approach the altar, lest you desecrate my sanctuary. I am the Lord, who makes them all holy."
If it had said that, think how many centuries of prejudice, difficulty, and even torment could have been spared to the disabled!
But no, human prejudices and the ignorant fear of the unknown are there, instead.
Edit to Add: When I said, "man", I deliberately left out the part about also allowing women to do it, to provide true equal access, as some modern churches are recently doing, as it seemed a tiny bit beyond the scope of the point I'm trying to reach, here.

What makes you think any prejudices or fear of the unknown persisted outside temple worship? The opposite would seem to be true. "unclean" people had very vital and necessary "unclean jobs." As such were compensated more for doing things others could not. If all were created equal who would attend the sick and dying, who would handle the dead, who would trade with outsiders, who would do all the thing necessary that would allow an isolationist society possible?
Different tools different roles. You D-bags on the left want to more to a more socialist type society well, this is what they look like. Not everyone is a High priests. Only a handful of those are ever needed. These types of soceity do not bring people all up, but rather exalt a few, and most keep everyone else on par. whatever that par maybe.
That is what is going on here.
