Why not? I've seen it happen before me. Ever lived in a remote village full of superstitious people? All it takes in this case is for one or two villagers to be excited about having witnessed some divine revelation, and everyone starts believing that they did.
That's not a world wide belief and many come to know Jesus without others doing the same. So again world wide delusions are not possible.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.
